Christmas Memories—Cookies!!

I have these warm and fuzzy memories of Christmas time as a child. My mom baked, she made crafts with me, took me ice skating along with a plethora of other activities that made me cry when Christmas was over. These memories even evoke a few tears now as I think of her and all of the sacrifices she made to create a magical holiday experience for me as a child as a single mother. There is no doubt in my mind that if she was still here she would be taking it to the next level for my children. Unfortunately she isn’t, so I have to grab the torch and start creating memories for my children. I must say I am a bit disappointed in myself for not creating a better experience for my son. However, there is no better time than the present to make a change. Lil Man is now 5, the perfect age for me to start creating awesome holiday memories for him. Over the next few weeks, I will post a series called “Christmas Memories” under which I will detail projects, and places that we attend in starting our own family Christmas traditions. For all my faithful readers for the 4,589th time you know I don’t cook, I don’t bake and I’m not crafty so these posts are sure to pack holiday cheer and laughter in the literal sense!

Last night started the festivities. He asked about making Christmas cookies, and I promised him we would, but that was before I realized I was exhausted. For those of you with children around Lil Man’s age you already know there is no such thing as making a promise and not sticking to it. He must have asked a million times when we were going to start on the cookies. It was in the best interest of my sanity to stand by my word, so I headed out in the pouring rain toWalmart for cookie cutters, cookie mix and sugar and we made cookies…..

All supplies on deck

Let’s get this party started

Mixing it up

The next step called for flattening the dough on a floured surface. I decided to put the flour on the kitchen table so he could reach, and since I don’t have a rolling pin we had to improvise and use a carafe *gotta stay quick on your feet*

He’s working it out…

Dad even joined in on the fun after calling me out for the bootleg rolling pin

The end product…I turned my back for a minute, thus the insane amount of sugar

Check out Lil Mama eyeing the cookies with the open hand

After all was said and done he was so happy..and that made me ecstatic. We sat down together and enjoyed them with a glass of milk over a mother and son discussion about his day. I think our first activity went over well!
What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?

Impromptu Thanksgiving

I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving went well. The family and I were set to head to my hometown Washington D.C. for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, after I picked Lil Mama up from spending the weekend with her godmother she was really sick. Once we got back home, I realized she was running a fever and had an extremely nasty cough and a ton of congestion. Called the Dr. to see if I could give her anything, he heard her couging through the phone and told me to take her to the Urgent Care.

Off we go, it was like a club up in there, poor sick babies were everywhere. After two hours of waiting we were seen, and Lil Mama was diagnosed with two ear infections, bronchialitis and NO TRAVEL! Oh well, Lil Mama is more important so I called the Mr. and told him our travel plans were grounded and I was going to drop her home and head to the store to get food for Thanksgiving.

Bwahahaha..he shut that idea down. Y’all know I don’t cook, I was willing to try but he stated Thanksgiving is not the time to experiment. I got on the phone, made some calls and found us a spot to crash for Thanksgiving. The food, and company was awesome. I wasn’t required to cook anything, but I volunteered to do all of the cleaning, that was the least I could do!

Lil Mama enjoying a turkey bone on her first Thanksgiving…excuse her hair she doesn’t like bows

Black Friday we headed to the outlets not far from my house..you know you live deep in the burbs when the outlet is 20 minutes from your house. I got some good deals on clothes for the babies, but me not so much. The Mr. stood in line for 1 hour and 30 minutes for ONE Polo sweatsuit that turned out to be too small #men. We left about 3a and I thought I would be heading to Target or Walmart and instead opted for my bed, too much. I don’t think I will be participating next year, just a bunch of hype, too many people and aggravation.

I started on my Christmas mantle, just need to grab some garland with the lights in it and a few finishing touches from Ikea to finish it off and I will show you all the finished product some time this week.

Enough about me..how was your Thanksgiving and Black Friday adventures? How are your Christmas decorations if any coming along?

I Couldn’t Resist!!

*Soooo I missed posting yesterday 🙁 #blogchallengefail. For those not aware I was participating in the November blog challenge which required posting everyday in the month of November. Well last night I snuggled up on the couch with Lil Man and both of us fell asleep watching Skating With the Stars *yawn* and when I woke up I realized I didn’t post. Oh well, at least it was for a good cause…snuggling with my Lil Man*

Now, I know you all have probably seen this. Every time I see this commercial I laugh like its the first time. I bring this to you with the intention to get you in a good mood for the possibly “crazy and deranged” family members you may encounter in the next few days, and to get you thinking about your Black Friday shopping plans! Are you ready?!!
