my daily makeup must haves

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m not a huge makeup wearer but I’ve recently tried to come up with a routine that is quick, easy and gives me a natural look. That pretty much consists of a light layer of foundation to even out my skin tone, a few swipes of blush, eyeliner, lightly filling in my brows and putting on some lipstick.

Every step doesn’t happen every day but there is seldom a time when I don’t leave the house without lipstick. Lipstick and earrings are neck in neck on my meter of things you should never leave home without. I love me some lipstick, I don’t need to know the undertones of my skin or any of that. A quick swipe on the hand and I know whether or not the color will work. I have more lipsticks than a little.

Burt’s Bees has a new line of lipsticks that I am a whole lot smitten with and apparently a ton of other people because when I went to Target and another Target I could only come up with this color and ended up having to order a few other shades online.

Burt's Bees Lipstick

The number one thing I love about this Burt’s Bees line of lipsticks is all of the colors are complementary to dark skin. In this day you would think this wouldn’t be an issue but it is. From deep berries, to mauves and pinks this line has a little bit of something for everybody and I’m here for it.

Outside of the amazing colors Burt’s Bees lipsticks ring in at just $9 and offer this impressive list of qualities:

  • Available in 14 full coverage, satin finish shades that are creamy and lightweight. The lipstick has the feel of a gloss with the coverage of lipstick. I even swiped it on my cheeks for a wash of color just to see and it served the purpose.
  • Hydrating and moisturizing for dry lips for up to 8 hours.
  • 100% Natural
  • Ingredients include Moringa, Raspberry Seed Oil, Beeswax, Vitamin E – Moringa oil is full of essential fatty acids and helps to soften and condition skin, while Raspberry seed oil improves skin elasticity, keeping your lips feeling lovely
  • Last but certainly not least they are Available at Target

I was a little worried when I picked up this color but quickly came to love it. I have had quite a difficult time finding a “nude” that works for my skin tone. This is my new favorite. I think the hint of pink is perfect and will transition well into Spring and Summer.

Burt's Bees Lipstick

If you are looking for a few new affordable and good for you lipsticks to add to your makeup bag these are essentials. Next time you are in Target take a peek. As much as I am in Target if I picked up a color every time I go I should have the whole collection by the end of next week!

The Beauty in Aquaphor

I was provided compensation for this post. All opinions are mine.

Nothing makes me feel like my dollar has been well spent more than purchasing products that have multiple uses. As the colder months approach, we all know how important it is to step up our beauty routines when it comes to our hair and skin.

Aquaphor does a little more than protect our skin from the harsh elements, it also has great beauty benefits for winter and year round skin care. Implementing these simple yet effective beauty regimens gives you an excuse to not only pamper yourself but to also protect your skin.

Protect and moisturize your Feet: Slather on a generous amount of Aquaphor to your feet nightly before covering them with warm cozy socks to lock in moisture. We often forget to take care of our feet during the winter months. This is a great way to show your feet love and keep them looking and feeling great all year long.

Keep Your Pout Looking Great: Utilize Aquaphors lip treatment to keep your lips moisturized. Don’t ruin the look of your favorite lip color with chapped lips. This purse sized option is great to keep on hand. Keep one in the car, your purse or on your desk for easy access.

Cuticle Care: I don’t have the time to get manicures at the salon so I often do them at home. Aquaphor serves as a great, heavy cuticle cream. With the harsh elements, applying Aquaphor to your cuticles will ensure your at home manicure looks its best!

skincare essentials | my favorite moisturizers

I am a RoC ambassador and have received compensation for this post. All opinions are mine.

I have the most finicky skin ever. In the summer it tends to run between oily and combination. As the temps drop, and the heat comes on it moves to being extremely dry on my forehead and cheeks depending on the day.

During the warmer months I tend to only moisturize after I wash in the evening not applying any additional moisturizer in the morning unless I need it. Now, as the winter comes in I have to moisturize in the evening and in the morning.

I’ve mentioned before one of my favorite night time moisturizers is the RoC multicorrexion 5 in 1 restoring night cream. From the texture to the price, this will always be my go to for night moisturizing.

RoC 5 in 1 correxion night cream

While this moisturizer has the right amount of heaviness it isn’t really helping combat my dryness during the day any more so I’ve added the daily moisturizer with spf to my routine in the mornings.

RoC Daily Moisturizer

This moisturizer is significantly lighter than its evening counterpart but for now it’s working okay. I’m a little worried about how it will fare once the temps really drop,  as the weather has been kind of mild.  I’ll let you know if I decide to update my routine further into the winter if I find it isn’t working well  for my extremely dry skin.

I can’t gush more about the quality of this product for the price and convenience. If you are looking to adjust your skin care products for the season take a look at RoC. You can find it at your local big box and drug store retailers for an extremely affordable price.

What does your winter skin care routine look like? What are some of your favorite products? Do you find yourself switching out your skincare routine with the seasons?

Beauty Featured Hair

hair crushin’

In being more intentional about keeping clutter to a minimum, today when I saw Addi attempt to squash one more doll into an already overflowing basket I told her to dump the whole thing out and decide which toys she wanted to give away to needy children and which ones she wanted to keep.

As I supervised her, I looked at her hair and was like OMG!

File Nov 25, 11 22 03 PM

Not only have I had a love hate relationship with her tresses but she has had some issues adjusting as well. Few people understood my concern  when I started being more intentional in the way I spoke to her about her hair and making myself more diligent in figuring out how to work with it. I refused to straighten it until I knew she was comfortable with her natural hair, especially going to school in an environment where she is the minority.

I remember being the only black girl in my class and when I told my mother I wanted my hair straight like the white girls she pressed it, and continued to press it until I can’t ever remember seeing my hair in it’s natural state.

Well my friends it is a new day and I need Addi’s norm to be a puffy fro and I see to it that she has learned to love and embrace her hair. I scold her brother even when he makes jokes about her hair not just for her sake but for all of the women he will come across with natural hair.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come in making sure my girl has a head full of healthy hair that she loves. Now if I could just get my hair to look like hers!!
