Life Mama's Babies Summer Weekend

Summer Vacation Week I

Our first week of Summer Vacation is over.

I have created a weekly schedule that involves school work, library, etc. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are reserved for outings and field trips.

For the first week of break I decided to let them have free fun.

We spent lots of time outdoors, riding bikes, taking walks and hanging out.

Thursday I was given a Media Pass to visit Six Flags’ new waterpark, Hurricane Harbor. The kids had a ball, and so did I. I’ll blog more about that later in the week.

The rest of the week and weekend was low key. You know the normal, cleaning, grocery shopping…..and I got that accent wall done. Reveal to come this week!

How was your weekend? What do you have planned for your children this summer?

This weekend was the perfect kick off to Summer.

Addison’s last day of school was last Wednesday and Adrian’s was Friday. Come Saturday morning we had a house full of children to include my nephew, as well as my niece and her friend.

By 11a everyone including the Mr. and I was outside playing.

When it was too hot to play outside the older children ventured inside to help my MIL make a cake. I just love this photo, as we know Big Mama doesn’t exist any more and it was such a joy to see them in the kitchen with Grandma.

While everyone was sucking up the air inside and taste testing cake batter I was left outside with a sweet little girl who got a new bike and was dead set on riding and roasting in the afternoon sun.

Once it cooled off  everyone made their way back outside for a little evening breeze. My niece caught this photo of the Mr. and I. You know he makes rare appearances around here.

Later in the evening my bestie Erika stopped by with her family. While watching the playoff game #GoHeat,  we snuck in a few #Usies

Sunday, we ventured to Chuck E. Cheese for a birthday party.

Today/Monday we are planning to stay close to home. We may take a visit to a local park that has a dedicated memorial section for our fallen soldiers. Maybe I’ll try to recreate this photo from last year

A HUGE thank you to all who have served and are serving. Please be sure to tell Service Men/Women thank you when you see them.

Weekend Shenanigans: AKA / Jacksonville Edition

Happy Monday!

As we move into our first full week of April it is rainy, cool and dreary here. I suppose this shouldn’t come as a surprise because April showers bring May flowers, however they failed to mention anything about the thunderstorm that startled me out of my sleep last night. The children are on Spring break this week so I am hoping that the weather clears up so that we can get out this week for a little Spring time fun.

This weekend, I took a trip to Jacksonville to attend my first AKA conference. I departed on Thursday afternoon and had a great time road tripping with my linesisters.

Upon our arrival we got registered and headed out to Jacksonville Landing for dinner and fellowship with a few other members of our chapter.

The remainder of the weekend was spent attending workshops and plenary sessions. I thoroughly enjoyed my time away learning and having time to fellowship with other sorority members. I wish I had the opportunity to view a little more of what Jacksonville had to offer but time was limited so I look forward to taking a trip back there in the near future.

While I enjoyed the time away and the luxury of sleeping alone in a bed  not being sandwiched between a snorer and a toddler, I missed my family and was happy to make it home on Sunday.

How was your weekend?

Surprise Party, Jazz in the Gardens, Brunch on SoBe – A Weekend in Miami

I never realize how much I need to get out of dodge until I do just that…..Get.Out.Of.Dodge.

Last year we didn’t travel at all trying to reserve all of our coins for the move. Now that we are mostly settled in we thought it would be a great time to sneak in a little get away to just relax and refresh. My father flew in from Las Vegas to stay with the children and the Mr. and I threw the deuces and hit the road to Miami.

After safely arriving to Miami after a 7 hour trip that should’ve taken 10 I hit the pedi spot with my bestie.  With my toes “did”, I got dressed for what I thought was going to be a night out on the town and dinner with the Mr. only to find out he and a friend of mine that lives in Miami put together a nice surprise birthday dinner for her husband and myself. Talk about good times with old friends.

Saturday involved a trip to the beach, some visiting and a beautiful night under the stars listening to music at Miami Gardens’ annual Jazz in the Gardens concert. This year’s line up included Mint Condition, Trey Songz, Kelly Rowland, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, Anthony Hamilton and Maze featuring Frankie Beverley.

Jazz in the Gardens

Post show, Mr. drove me  to South Beach, where I spent the night with two of my favorite girls in the world at a very chic boutique hotel on the beach.  Sunday morning the three of us grabbed a selfie and some brunch. We spotted Nicole Murphy walking by, she was about that I don’t want to be bothered life but I caught a glimpse of those abs. Yeah, I’m on that….starting next week!

The Mr. and I closed out our weekend getaway at Jazz in the Gardens, where LL Cool J, Anthony Hamilton and the infamous Frankie Beverly closed out our phenomenal weekend.

As I head into a very busy next few months followed by the craziness of Summer I am glad that we took this opportunity to sneak away. When was the last time you and your significant other stole away? Have you ever taken a home girls trip? Have any trips planned for the Spring and Summer?
