Escaping a Style Rut…Part II

Purging. Taking Inventory. Shopping for the Basics.  Did you miss class last week? Click here for Part I.

As stated last week the basics are so important and are extremely necessary to build a strong, quality base for a stylish wardrobe.

We’ll look at a few options today from three different pricing points.

Good. Better. Best.

Let me say, I have recently found the price difference in moving from good to better is normally less than moving from better to best. Make sense? I normally always go with the middle option. If the product is taken care of properly it is likely to last just as long as the best option and you managed to save a few dollars.

On to the basics….

Yes! Nothing warms my heart more than an oxford with a popped collar. There is just a sense of classic style there that is unmatched. Worn alone, under a pullover sweater, a cardigan, Left open and over a cami, the styling options are endless with an oxford.

Old Navy  $29.50                              Banana Republic  $59.50                    Ralph Lauren $89.50 & Customizable

Everybody is not interested in a stiletto, and to be honest the older I got they don’t thrill me like they used to. Thank goodness for the new resurgence of fashionable flats. If you are a plain person, this may be where you choose to add your punch of color or print. Have fun.

Payless  $26.99                                      Nine West  $59.00                             Tory Burch  $95.00

No words in the English language to describe the love you have for THAT pair of jeans that fit just right. I have always found Forever 21 jeans to fit very well. Seeing that we are all different sizes and shapes I included New York and Company and PZI jeans because I’ve heard from the majority of the curvy girls in my life that these jeans offer the right amount of hug without the waist gap. I am curve less so I can’t vouch but it’s a starting place if you’ve had issues in the past with finding denim that fits properly.

   Forever 21 $24.90                     New York & Company $59.95          PZI Jeans $69.00

This is just somewhere to start. A part of looking well put together is making sure your clothing fits properly so it may take some time to find that perfect fit, at the perfect price. Sometimes in order for our clothing to fit properly we may need a little help in the foundation department so don’t forget your good bra and Spanx!!

Next week we’ll look at sweaters and blazers. See you then.

Have you ever found that perfect fitting pair of jeans?

This pretty much sums up my wardrobe – plain and simple. lol I’m working on moving from the Good category to the Better category. And as a side note, I’m drooling over that handwriting font!

I am on the hunt for a good oxford shirt and may splurge and get a Brooks Brothers shirt, which supposedly won’t wrinkle! Also LOVE the TB flat…I also want a pair of her Reva flat.

Denim…Gap has always been my go-to brand but I am always up for trying different ones and it also helps to get two pair when you find “the ones.” A pair to wear with flats and a pair to wear with heels!

Let me tell you something…. im thrifty. I can’t imagine spending a lot of money on clothes or shoes. It’s just not in my spirit lol . Even if I had millions, I still wouldn’t.

I’m with Kita tho, I found an awesome pair of jeans at target. They fit so well (aside from the waist but nothing fits my waist). I am getting more into flats though. I used to be all wedges all the time before Jas but now I just don’t have it in me and comfort for me is always key.

I have been trying to find the perfect leopard print flat for weeks! I do have a couple fave pair of jeans though. Shoes have been my hard finds lately. I’m not as excited about heels as I use to be. Flats are everywhere and cute but I’m still so picky, lol!

Okay, I’m gonna love this series. You’re looking at Mrs Plain Jane herself. My problem is I don’t like shopping and I don’t like taking time to find the stuff that fits me perfectly. So yeah, bring this series ON! I’m already encouraged. 🙂

I really enjoyed this post. I like the comparison. But for the most part the good is fine with me. Except the shoes. I like the Nine west the best of the three. But I just don’t see ME paying $40 for flats!! #justme.
But the Old Navy shirt was cool with me but I would like to try to $69 jeans, but again. I do NOT like to spend much but look good!

I hear those Tory Burch flats are well worth the money. Thinking about investing a pair. My last pair of good flats called it quits last week while I was at my mom’s.

I’m a plain and simple girl so flats are my best friend. I’ve been in a style rut since college so I do need the basics and your post is a good starting point.

I’m looking to improve my work week wardrobe. With winter around the corner, I am looking to purchase the knit scarves as an accessory to my sweaters and shirts. I’m trying to look good on a worker- bee budget…lol! I’ve found that the better your clothes fit, the nicer the overall look. Keep bringing the fashion tips!

I purchase the majority of my staples in what you’ve labeled the good category and wear them to death! Actually, when I shop, my goal is to buy things that will allow me to wear them to death.
I’m not curvy but learned a few years ago that I have to put out good $ for jeans to get the fit and comfort I want. Lately, Levi’s are doing the trick for me.

I love a clean, crisp white top with flats and jeans! I love Tony Burch but I get irritated because so many people will have them… I’m in the process of redoing my closet! I need to reup on all of this stuff!
