Fitness Friday….I Just Felt Like Runnin’

Well you know there isn’t much that can hold me down…not even a bad report on my cholesterol. I keeps it moving. So now that I know there is an issue on to the solution.

I am going to start running. Just.like.that.

0:00-0:42 in the video is about how my decision to start running went down in my head

In high school I ran track and spent some time on the cross country team. I remember having a certain love for running and would look forward to practice and the freedom that I felt with my ear phones on and the wind in my face. My love affair with running ended for the dumbest of all reasons. I didn’t want to mess up my hair.

Well, in light of recent events I have decided that I will more than likely be committed to something I enjoy. I hate the gym, I always feel like somebody’s watching me, so that’s out of the question. So running it is. I am on the hunt for a good jogging stroller and new running shoes. I am signing up to run a popular marathon held in Atlanta each year on July 4th, known as the Peachtree Road Race. I have no choice, I have to do this. For me, and for my family. That’s all the motivation I need.

I’m excited!

Can anybody recommend a good stroller and running shoes. How do I start off building up my endurance. I know I have some runners reading…give up the tips in the name of low cholesterol.

Have a good weekend!

Hmmm…I follow a lot of runners on twitter and still can’t help you out. My best suggestion is to go to a shoe store/store for runner and get a gait analysis and they can tell you what shoes would work best.

I used to run track as well. However, I gave it up because I went to a private college and they didn’t offer sports. So, I traded in my cleats for a heavy load of books and almost 8 hours of classes a day. I don’t know much about jogging strollers, but I do know that when it comes to running shoes my Nike cleats were the most comfortable. In fact, I wore them around the house and even to stores. I also had a plain pair of Nike running sneakers too.

My suggestion would be to visit your local Footlocker or Champs and let them pick a few for you to try on. Walk around the store in them and get a feel for the fit then pick which ones you like the best. I know getting a pair of running cleats and sneakers sounds crazy but the running sneakers will be better on wear for every day use and the cleats will be better for the actual marathon. I’d recommend training in the cleats at least twice to three times week so that you are used to them.

Hopefully, this information helps. I’d ask around on Twitter about good jogging strollers. You know you’re guaranteed to get a response from somebody almost as soon as you hit the ‘Tweet’ button. LOL.

I also ran track! And 3 marathons! But not much running since I became a mom. No stroller rec but I always wear Asics. It’s worth going to a good sneaker place and getting fitted based on your arch, width, etc.

GO YOU! Very proud of you. Send some of that inspiration this way please?

YEa! I feel you on running..it is liberating! I run in New Balances and there is a store on Peachtree by Lenox Mall and they can size you and recommend a shoe. Yes, I am going to do the Peachtree…Sign up for the Atlanta Track Club because you can register first dibbs. I am excited about the Peachtree!!! Woohoo..Oh yeah try a Chicco Stroller it was lightweight enough for me to jog… Let me know if (and when) you want to hit the trails together!

I’m not in Atlanta, but I would strongly recommend going to a specialty running store to be fitted for new running shoes. Avoid chain stores like Footlocker since their staff isn’t trained to fit for what you’ll need. I go to here in Maryland you get a 10% discount if you bring in an old pair of running shoes to be recycled. Happy trails and please, please, please on behalf of your knees and feet take the time to go to a specialty shop.

I used to love running…I haven’t done it in a while. Particularly because the weather hasn’t been great here! Have been considering getting back into it, though. I know a lot of people like the Bob, for jogging!!
