gallery wall part I

Hanging things on the wall gives me some sort of crazy anxiety. Anxiety mostly because I can’t be bothered with measuring and leveling. I like to use my eyes and wing it and in the past this method has left the walls with unnecessary holes that require patching and painting.

Now that the living room has been painted it is time for me to officially start hanging things. My love of gallery walls of course made this my first project. The thought of having to measure out and level a 3 X 3 grid almost made me want to return the frames I purchased in bulk from Michaels, but I pushed through and with a few mishaps, and curse words my gallery wall is slightly straight and level.

Please don’t look too hard.

Meet inspiration:

Source

About a month ago Michael’s had a sale where these frames that were normally $9.99 a piece were on sale for $2.99.

I took that as my sign it was time to start preparation for the gallery wall. I ended up having to purchase them online and instead of the 9 I needed I ended up having to order 12. Those extra frames have come in handy.

Don’t ask.

Wasn’t even really sure where to get started. I ended up measuring the space and doing some janky math that I couldn’t share with you if I wanted to, to come up with the amount of space needed between each frame. I hung based on those measurements then went back and leveled.

Three hours later, one broken frame including the glass and I have a somewhat straight gallery wall.

Again, don’t look too hard.

Now comes the hard part of deciding whether to use black and white or color prints. As if that decision wasn’t stressful enough add on whether or not to keep the matte making the print  5X5  or removing the matte and using a 10X10 print.

Lawd.

I’ll be back in a week or so with the results. I have ordered colored and B/W prints in 5X5 from Walmart to see the quality of the prints. I want to finish off the area with a rug, so I can move on to my next project.

Are you working on any home projects right now?

You give me life girl! I don’t have any pictures hanging in my house because I shy away from the uncontrollable color that comes from using colored prints (everything must fit in the color scheme). This I will try (if I can find brown and ivory).

This looks great! I love that wall color and I think the black and white prints will look amazing against it. Look forward to the results.

I’m still (and I use that term loosely) working on the baby’s room. I’m halfway done and have everything I need to finish up except silver spray paint and time. 🙂

It looks great. I hate hanging anything that requires a nail. Which is why it took me 3 years to hang up my daughter’s 6-month old picture. Thank God for those strong command strips, because that is what I finally used. I love those Command strip for hanging things now.
I’m learning sew so my projects are all sewing related.

First – that wall color is gorgeous! I want to do a gallery wall above my fireplace, but 1/2 my photos are landscape and half are portrait and the whole thought of it makes me want to leave them happily sitting on the mantle with 3 feet of blank space above it.

Love it! That deal on the price was definitely a sign.
After years of procrastination, I tackled my own photo wall project a few months ago. I love seeing the pictures displayed in the house. Right now I’m working on organizing the pantry.

I’m super late, but that paint color is absolutely perfect!

I’ve been debating on whether or not I am going to do a gallery wall. I’ve never had so much wall space to try and fill so I figured a gallery wall would help with that. Initially, I wanted to do a gallery for the hallway.

It’s a great idea and I’m excited to see how yours turns out.

Great start! I’d go with B&W! Apartment Therapy’s tips for hanging have always been spot on 😉

We’re moving so our entire house is getting a makeover. I like the gallery. I think full frame black and whites would look amazing.
