Children Lil Mama Mama's Babies

Breastfeeding Withdrawals?

I was a first generation breastfeeding Mama. I was determined to go against what was considered normal in my family and circles and breastfeed my babies. I did eight months with my first and a little over a year and half with my second. Weaning was not an issue, although I would’ve rather that been an issue versus what I am facing now with an extremely stubborn 3 year old.

At night she will beg to climb in my lap whilst whining ” I want to nurse” which basically means she wants to lay her head on my boob and suck her tongue until she goes to sleep. She is constantly rubbing my breast and any other woman’s breast that picks her up, and I won’t even go into her bra fetish. When she gets really sleepy she will bust in my room hollering, ” I need the bra.” I thought she would’ve grown out of it by now but it seems to be getting worse.

Had none of these issues with my son. When he was done he was done. Her fake nursing and bra blankie shenanigans have been going on for nearly 2 years now and I need her to stop. I figure it might be comforting to her but who wants to see a 5 year old carrying around a bra. She has now taken it to another level. Put her in her car seat the other day, strapped her in and didn’t notice anything weird. Get to a stop light and turn around to look at her and she is on this….

What is this about? Anybody else had these issues? Please tell me my baby isn’t the only one with this weird behavior.

Umm maybe you have nice boobs and bras?? She’ll grow out of it I’m sure it’s probably a safety thing for her.

      KMSL!!!!

I can’t say that I’ve had this problem with any of my babies, but I’m sure she’ll grow out of it. Give it a little time. One day she’ll be happy to be sleep without a bra. 😀

i cant take that picture!!! lmao!!!!

I think that when you guys were done nursing you needed to give her something to replace it with. I’m not sure what but something would have done you well. Something else that was soothing for her. When Jas was weened off the paci she became all consumed with her blankie for soothing. She is still all about her blankies as she sleeps with 3 of them in her bed.

You make an extremely valid point here. I’ve tried to give her my shirt but she doesn’t want it. I think we are going to have to go cold turkey.

I cant help but giggle at that fact that she is so articulate to express exactly what she wants ..”Give me the bra ..and nobody gets hurt” LOL

On a serious note, that would be a great pediatrician question and I agree that cold turkey may be the way to go (as is with pacifiers, bottles, diapers, etc)

    Good luck lil momma!

A mess I say! Just bossy. I asked the pediatrician a year ago and he said she would grow out of it but it seems to be getting worse. Cold turkey is likely the only way. Now I have to find somewhere to hide my bras because she will go in the drawer and get them out on her own.

Oh wow! At first glance I didn’t realize she had your bra. Nia’s been weaned 1 year and 1 month exactly and is still boobie obsessed. She wants to touch, squeeze, lay on them everything and even has asked her dad when her boobs will get big O_o I guess I think of it as she spent most of her life nursing and then it was taken away so she’s mournful. I definitely think it’s a comfort thing though, but Nia’s never gone so far as to want a bra. I don’t have advice from experience, but Krissy’s advice to give her an alternative makes sense.

I’m trying really hard not to ROFL with that photo.
    LAWD!
For a long time, Pookah wouldn’t go to sleep unless his hand was down my shirt. Then, it was up my sleeve. Then he just had to touch me. Now, he just needs me in the room, with an occasaional touch. I think he’ll grow out of it soon.
Nursing was soothing to her. And I guess the bra is a “luvie” as they call them? Maybe she needs something to reassociate the comfort of nursing with? Because she can’t tote around a bra……
Ok, I had to looks at that photo again. Hillarious!

    Lol! I have no advice.

I thought it was weird that V like to still hold one every now and then. Occasionally she tries to go for a boob and I tell her it’s for babies and there’s no more milk. She laughs it off and continues her Caillou watching.

Man! I’m sure its a comfort thing at this point. I guess I just have to start putting my foot down and not giving in. However, the silence that it provides is golden!

OMG this made me laugh so much because it happened to me, too! Well, my son was turning two and he was showing no signs of stopping. I commend you for going as far as 3 years! Anyway, he would hold on to my nipple for comfort and want to nurse anytime I was sitting near him. I just stopped sitting next to him and distracted him until he forgot about it. He’s 2 yrs and 3 months now and he still likes boobs (although since he’s a man I doubt that will EVER go away). Your daughter’s love for bras is funny and cute. I’m sure she’ll appreciate it when you remind her of her luvie when she’s a teenager. LOL
