This will be the first post of many showing the progress of our home building process.
At this point we have had a few minor hiccups. The lot we originally chose for some reason will no longer be a basement lot. This presented a major problem because there aren’t many basement lots available and at this time we will either end up on lot 45 which is toward the front of the development or on lot 29 which is in a cul de sac and right across from the original lot we selected.
The minor issue with lot 29 is someone currently has a contract on it but they are going back and forth regarding whether or not they they would like a basement. We are hoping they don’t so we can move to it.
Me standing and looking back on the lot. The fact that is slopes bothers me a bit *shrugs*
Turned around and this is the distance to the front of the lot.
Next issue we were having but that has been resolved is we I wasn’t sure about the floor plan. There is one particular floor plan that is very open and has a craftsman feel but the family room is very small but it has an extra bedroom. Compared to that is the larger home with only 4 bedrooms and a study. We I decided to go with the larger home because there is a possibility that we may be having another baby and I am thinking of 3 growing children, 4 including my stepdaughter and my husband has a large family that comes to visit often. I want to make sure that we have enough space to entertain. To solve that issue we will furnish the study so that it can easily be converted to guest bedroom/bedroom for my stepdaughter in the event we add to the roster before the basement gets finished 😉
We are currently in the process of putting our current home up for short sale. We are $100K in the hole!!! The process is long and grueling from my understanding but God is able and we are leaning on that!

July 30, 2012 at 4:41 amand being about $100,000 in the hole is what is holding us back from moving into another house at the moment. SMH. But I want a smaller house! LOL
I love the look of the lot. But I would want the cul de sac too. But you never know, it might be in God’s plan for some reason for you tobe in that front lot. Who knows!! But this is so exciting! So glad you decided to get the larger house! Can’t wait to see future updates!!

July 30, 2012 at 2:23 pmThe economy sucks and the thing is I don’t think it will get any better until they try to help some of us stuck in these low value homes. It’s such a disappointment. At least you have a home large enough. Our home is too small so we really don’t have a choice. We can’t wait it out…well we could but it would be nice to have more space.

July 30, 2012 at 1:05 pmEverything will defintely work out. I’m glad you are sharing this home building experience. I’m sure everyone can relate to at least one part in the process. With this economy, being in the hole is the norm. Smh.

July 30, 2012 at 2:18 pmIt’s so sad. The bad part is people who have been faithful and payed on time are the ones to suffer. I’m not worried. Everything will work out just as it should!

July 30, 2012 at 1:08 pmI love the fact that we can journey with you in buying/building a home! How exciting. I think you made a good choice by going with the larger home. A growing family needs a lot of space!

July 30, 2012 at 1:34 pmCongrats! Everything will work out the way it is suppose to, for sure!
Some advice as someone who has just spent the last year and a half looking at homes: front lot..if it is near the front of the subdivision and you don’t plan on living there forever or a really long time, thing about it from a selling stand point. I have seen a lot of homes who have everything and then we go to see them and they are right at the front of the subdivision or on the main road, which with kids is a no for me. And if you do get the basement lot be sure to finish the basement. We moved into our GA home where the basement was unfinished and it is still only have finished after 8 years…so that’s my two cents. Take it or leave it 😀

July 30, 2012 at 2:16 pmThat is my major issue with the other lot. It’s in the front of the subdivision. If that ends up being our only choice we may end up walking. Praying the cul de sac lot opens up!

July 30, 2012 at 6:10 pmYay for a new house (with a basement)! We’ve never built from the ground up, but I had a friend that just did. She lives in the Atlanta area, too, and had some hiccups, but my girl is now in that house and loving it!
Congrats to you and the fam! What an exciting (and stressful, I’m sure) process!

July 31, 2012 at 4:06 pmSo fun to see everything from the beginning! My husband and I have very different views on home ownership so for now I will live vicariously through you. Praying all goes well =)

August 1, 2012 at 11:08 pmI would just claim it that, that lot is yours. One thing I did while purchasing my house. I had a couple of stressful moments during the purchase of my home. One night I took myself and kids and we prayed (I’m talking about Grandma praying for pray) on the front steps of the house and I kid you not 3 days later the loan officer call and said “Janelle seems as though I made a mistake and we can close at the end of the month” You talking about a scream and louder she thought something was wrong. As long as you are faithful (as you are) God will see you through. Make sure you have a screaming Housewarming Party…lol

August 3, 2012 at 11:02 pmSending up prayer that God will work everything out! The whole real estate process these days is just such a mess and so stressful. However, in the end when you all move into your new place it will be worth it!

August 5, 2012 at 3:56 pmI hope it all works out and you’re able to get what you really want. We are also in the hole with our home, so we will be staying put for a while. I look forward to future posts about your process!

August 5, 2012 at 5:22 pmI hope those other folks decide they don’t want a basement so you can get that space. This is so exciting, I can’t wait to see all the updates and progress on the house. (Glad you get to build the bigger one too!) And YAY for “adding to the roster.”

August 6, 2012 at 8:45 amI am on the same boat (with the exception of building a new house) our home is too small, and our family is growing… I wish you the best of luck with everything… darn how I missed this post before Blogher12. I have a million questions to ask.
