Children’s Room Flooring Inspiration | The Benefits of Carpet

This post is sponsored by The Carpet & Rug Institute

When it was time to start considering new flooring for my children’s rooms, for a very short time we tossed around the idea of putting a hard surface option in their rooms, and then when I put some thought into how my children live in their rooms it was evident that carpet was the best choice. My children sit on the floor a lot, both of them for different reasons even though they have chairs and desks in their rooms. With both of them doing remote school during this season, I often find my son laid out on the floor doing schoolwork, practicing his instrument, lifting weights, and talking to his friends on the phone. As a budding ballerina, my daughter spends a lot of time on the floor doing her ballet stretches, in addition to her hair and practicing her makeup application skills in front of her mirror.

When choosing the color, I decided to go with a longer pile than we had before, as well as a darker color to add more contrast. I like to think I offered them a more comfortable option for when they are sitting on the floor and a color that worked well with the styling throughout our home for a cohesive look.

In addition to the style and comfort, I wanted the house to feel cozy and warm during the winter months, not to mention the noise reduction it offers when my son goes to strumming on his viola and my daughter decides that her workouts need to include jumping jacks and a few other dance jumps that she works on. The most important benefit to carpet is it increases indoor air quality by filtering and trapping dust, pollen, and other particles in the air, removing them from the breathing zone.

I just recently replaced the carpet in my office as well, and I am in love. Carpet serves so many purposes, and style is just one of them. Our master bedroom is long overdue for new flooring and will get new carpet at the top of the year, once we repaint and scrape the ceiling. Stay tuned to see what we do with our master bedroom!

Fab Top 5 – Fall Front Porch Décor Inspiration

Fall Porch Decor Ideas

As a child, getting me to eat breakfast or any meal besides dinner was a feat. Well to be frank old habits die hard because I will still go an entire day with out eating, but back to the story. So this particular day not only was I starving but my Stepmother was cooking my favorite meal of fried pork chops, fried apples, cabbage and cornbread muffins. I probably hadn’t asked less than a million times when was dinner going to be ready so  when she finally said come eat……..

Maaaaan, I went to doing a Sound of Music, Maria in the meadow twirl with arms open and all. Well I spun a little too many times and found myself stumbling and before I knew it I cracked my forehead on the corner of the wall. Needless to say I had to wait another 20 minutes before eating. I said all of that to say, my excitement for Fall is just as intense as that twirl and wall collision.

I’ve kept out of Hobby Lobby and most craft stores because their tendency these days to put up harvest decor months before time ruins the welcoming of the season for me. Now that we are in September I just can’t contain myself. I walked the aisles of Michael’s the other day with the silliest grin on my face making note of all the new fall owl  additions I plan to make and ordering an insane amount of Bath and Body Works “Leaves” candles that would make me hoarder certified.

First up is my fall porch. Here are a few of my inspiration ideas. The pumpkins will get added later because I don’t want them to rot.

Getting at least one cornstalk for my mailbox, not from Kroger though. They wanted $20 last year. I’ll find a farm first.

I mentioned  in this décor post that I have to come to grips with the idea that decorating and styling my home to my liking and taste is going to take time…..and money. Once I embraced that idea I’ve decided to just pick up pieces I see and like along the way. I’m no longer trying to finish one room before starting the next, if I see something I like, before purchasing I try to think about where I will put it and if there is a place then I buy it, if the price is right.
