Mimi NaBloPoMo Rant

Can I Be a Hypocrite?

I just finished catching up on my Google Reader and I have noticed that I comment on a ton of blogs that don’t follow me, or have never even stopped by to comment..not.once.

Quiana over at Harlem Lovebirds did a post here…that got me thinking about folks who read and never comment.

So I’m a hypocrite. I get in these moods, I’m in one now and since I have to blog everyday you get to witness it first hand. Yes, I have blogged and Twitter ranted about not caring about if people follow me or comment and/or either but TODAY I’m peeved.

See, if you’ve been around the blog block you know there are circles and you will see people on the regular. So, if I see you commenting on other people’s blogs then I know you’ve seen me on your blog but you don’t even stop by…To defend my hypocrisy I follow a ton of blogs and never comment but if they stop by HERE I’m going to find my way over there every now and then to comment. Quietly I read everyone’s blog who follows me…not everyday but when I do, I may read 10 posts at a time. If I’m not at least following you let me know. I don’t comment like I should that would be the hypocrisy busy’ness that is my life…but still. Y’all get where I’m headed? Maybe the food has me delusional. Maybe my content isn’t their cup of tea, but when we blog about the same thing. Oh?

Maybe they just don’t like me. I care today, but I assure you I won’t care tomorrow.

Do you get in your blog feelings this way from time to time…You know women are emotional creatures. Do share and if you’ve been lurking now is the time to show your face. I’m vulnerable and need virtual hugs!

I noticed in my google analytics that my readership is up somedays but I notice only a few comments. I think I get a lot of lurkers myself. I only have a few blogs in my reader and those are the people who show me love even if it’s just once a month. I do a clean out every 3 months or so for people who have never commented back.

I agree with you and Kita, I follow a lot of blogs and I try to comment (but I want it to be meaningful) but I noticed I get few comments back. Generally, if someone comments, I try to find a link to their blog so I can pay a visit ~ courtesy, ya know?

THIS! Courtesy. I know we all probably lurk and have lurkers but if that person took the time to comment on your blog..#imdone

You are not the only one, that’s for sure. Like Kita I can have stats that look really good, but only have a handful of comments. Its okay–I guess.

I do clean house with people who I never connected with, or blogs that I visited but never saw interactions from them. I think that is way a lot of us are on here, interaction. What’s the point in trying to connect if your just talking to yourself?

Lurking is fine. But the problem I have is when I visit your blog more than once and you just won’t come by and say hey, thanks for reading. Maybe its me!

No, I don’t think you are. I think it’s just time that gets away from all of us. I know I have blogs I go to everyday, some I read strictly on the weekends because that’s when it’s possible to get to them. I do try and comment as much as possible, sometimes you just get caught up in what’s going on around you and you never get back to it. But, then I usually try hard to get back to them.

Same here…I see that people lurk my blog but never comment but I’m good so I appreciate the love either way..Other times I need a full week to read everyone’s blog and comment…

Yeah. I only comment when I genuinely have something to say so I don’t expect an every day exchange but something!

Yep I get in my blog feelings like that sometimes.

I do like to venture out of “my blog circle” to see what’s what in the atmosphere. I try to start a trend of commenting with hopes they will do the same….sometimes I’m p’d, sometimes I unfollow, and sometimes I comment anyway. Just depends.

I really try not to let it bother me…..{sigh} but sometimes it does.
I think I am pretty loyal to the people who comment on my blog, at least I give it my best effort. πŸ˜‰
I definitely enjoy your blog and if you don’t see me for a bit, GIRL you better check on me…cause if I am not on vacation, I could be in need of rescue. lol

Hang in there buddy! You have a good circle of blog buddies that will always be around. πŸ˜‰

I think Google Reader is a blessing and a curse! A lot of times I find myself reading away, but from my phone usually, and on most blogs, it’s a special kind of hell trying to comment with a smartphone, lol! I often slips my mind to go back and comment, once I get on the computer. That’s not just me, is it? Other than that, I totally feel you on wanting to have something “good” to say. I’ll get to a post, and everybody has already said what I want to say, so I (WAAYYY) over think it, and not wanting to parrot someone else, I just end up not commenting at all! I’m more than a little bit neurotic though, lmbo. I get in my feelings a whole lot little bit sometimes too, but then i think about all of the time *I* didn’t comment, and then I feel like a jerk. It’s actually…a pretty vicious cycle to be in, lol!

Courtesy. It’s all about courtesy. If someone has spent the time to come and read and comment, courtesy says you at least pay them a “thanks for stopping by my place” comment. You know I haven’t blogged in over a month, which means I also haven’t really kept up with blogs but I try to at least hit the blogs I truly enjoy. It doesn’t mean I comment every time, just when I feel like I have a point or something to add. I follow quite a few blogs on GFC but I mostly use it to keep track of blogs I have visited or read something I liked. I don’t expect them to return the favor. Where I do expect it is if you know my ip info and still never visit. There are some out there that think they are just da bomb and even when you try and interact with them…you get nothing. I am about to clean house, especially on Twitter!

I am totally guilty of reading tons of blogs, but only commenting on a fraction of them. I read a lot of mommy blogs and sometimes I just don’t feel like I have any right commenting b/c I’m not a mom. I know that’s silly but whatev lol.

I totally feel your pain but it’s partially my fault. I don’t comment often and that’s probably why I don’t have as many followers as I could. But, I feel that if someone takes the time to comment on your blog, you should take the time to at least visit their’s and leave a comment. There are so many clique’s in the blogging community that it starting to feel real high school-ish. Grown woman acting like teenagers. And then you have the ones who think they are celebrities. Girl, I could go on and on, but I will end my mini rant. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!!

I make it my business to visit and comment on the bloggers who comment on my blog. It’s just good manners to show them some support back. Even if it’s just hi, you never know what kind of relationship you might be making way for. That same person you’ve been ignoring could be the same person you need advice from one day.

I totally know the feeling! I read blogs from my phone a lot and commenting is a pain, so I feel like a lot of bloggers may not know I’m a faithful reader, and they may intentionally not comment on my blog as a result…I’ve really had to make a conscious decision to just comment on blogs when I can and not worry about whether or not comments are reciprocated. Those who follow me on Twitter and FB know that I’m a supportive blog buddy even if I can’t always comment..

p.s. you should install the WP touch plugin for mobile phone viewing. Makes commenting from mobile phones so muh easier for readers (like me!) πŸ™‚

Ive noticed during NaBloPoMo that I have a lot of lurkers. But not a lot of comments. I try to comment and visit at least once a week someone who comments on my blog. It kind of irks me when I make the effort to comment on their blog regularly and I don’t get the same love. It kind of hurts my Bloggy feelings!

I think all bloggers have felt this way at some time or another. Sometimes my feelings are hurt when i get an unsubscription notification from feedburner. Then i remind myself that i’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s ok. And i’ve connected with sos so many awesome pple so why focus on those who i haven’t? But like you said, some days things just bother you more than others and that’s life of course.

You know what else? I usually dont comment if there are already a lot of comments…unless i really have something i just need to say :).

People need to practice courtesy! I try to leave comments as much as possible. But I don’t like when I leave several comments and you don’t stop by not one time! I don’t think my blog is that bad

I’d comment on your blog if it were user friendly like this one lol. I read but can’t leave comments on blogger from my work pc and from my phone it just takes WAY too long to load. So I’m forced to be a lurker.

I’m glad I inspired you and thanks for the mention =) I find that when I get back on track with my GR and commenting that I feel good seeing so many likeminded folks in the blogosphere as you mentioned, and it encourages me to see my peers going through similar challenges and triumphs. And about those “comment collectors” as Krissy called them when she commented on my post, that’s just being greedy!

I’m with Christina, I read alot of blogs from the blackberry and the time it takes to leave a comment is ANNOYING!! lol I used to really let this affect me but then I found that some may not comment on the blog but bring the convo to Twitter which is cool with me. There’s still a connection. You’re still one of the popular kids I’m sure if they saw you it would be all love πŸ˜‰

I try to comment on everybody’s (active) blog I have in my reader at least once every 3 weeks or so. I have about 200 blogs in my reader though. And yeah I see people that are not necessarily in my circle everywhere and I know they have read my blog but they dont comment. Sometimes they jump outta nowhere and comment and I’m like “I didn’t even know you read me.” I have realized that you never know who is reading. But everybody just doesn’t like to comment (for whatever reason).
