In light of the unexpected and unlikely earthquake that rattled the northeast last week, I am sure many got a tangible understanding of how massive the great quakes that have rocked Haiti, and Japan must’ve been.
Over a year and a half after the earthquake in Haiti, many Haitians, are struggling to get their lives back together. With promises of aid that never came or is slowly finding its way to those in need, people in this area are still hungry, homeless, and sick. They are still living in aftermath conditions nearly two years later.
Macy’s Heart of Haiti is helping some of the area’s artisans provide for their families by selling some of their artwork in select Macy’s stores and online. 22% of the retail price is given back to the artists to help them feed, clothe and house their families.
Seeing that I love photography, I was ecstatic when I received a hand crafted picture frame from the project. The detail on the fame is Ah.mazing.
Here are a few other items from the project to get you oooo–iiinnnnggg and aaaahhhhhhing. The prices range from $10-$125.
Please visit Heart of Haiti via Macys online and follow on Facebook for new products and information on how you can help the efforts. The holidays are coming up. What an awesome way to give and give back!
*I was provided a frame for review. The opinions are my own*
*Please excuse the dust. For the next week or so I am going to be playing with the layout of the blog a bit. I really want to pay to have it done, but I can’t part with the $$ knowing if I put my mind to it, I can do it myself and save that money for a new pair of shoes..Also if you would be so kind to click the Networked Blogs link to your right..I’ll love you forever. It’s all apart of the journey from blog to brand..Thank you for your support*
NOW…
How was your weekend? Did you catch the VMAs? My weekend was low key nothing special, so I won’t bore you with the deets, but instead will let you in on the new epiphany that I had this weekend.
I’ve decided I want to be a domesticated goddess. Hear me out. See, I was thinking about my mother the other day and I came upon fond memories of her baking, trying recipes, and crafting when I was my son’s age. The house always smelled of food. Her dedication to the home brings me warm and fuzzy feelings of her.
It hit me. I want my children to have those same memories of me and the home that I provided for them. While I’ll never be my mother, with fall and winter the coziest seasons upon us I’ve decided to give crafting and baking a try…for my kids sake. Don’t laugh.
I may hang out and wear stilettos and skinny jeans but I want my kids to say I provided not just a house but a home for them in a somewhat “traditional” sense of the word. You’ll see the Domestic Goddess emerge, mess up and succeed on this journey. However, most importantly my son will no longer have to remind me that his grandma used to make cookies with him because he’ll be making them and memories with his own mother.
Now….which apron do I choose.
I’m sooooo serious!
Do you bake, or craft? What are some of your fave blogs in this genre. Lawd knows I’m going to need some inspiration. I’m excited, check my new menu bar. I even put a place there for you to see all my attempts in one place!
