Last Saturday I attended a leadership class, during which we took the True Colors Personality Assessment. The test requires you to look at a cluster of words found in 5 rows and 4 columns and circle the grouping that is most like you. I was pretty surprised when I got to the end and found that overwhelmingly I was an orange and scored not one single point in the color that has the organizational characteristics that I’ve been dying to achieve.
So basically an orange is someone characterized as being: Witty, impactful, optimistic, one who bores easily with structure and routine, agreeable and this….may rush to over-simiplify solutions, and lacks planning skills.
THAT’S ME….ME. ME. ME.
Oddly enough for the longest I’ve been trying to step my way over into living a more organized and planned out lifestyle. People that are naturally born with those skills are considered golds….the only grouping that I scored a 0 in. Ugh. Let’s also talk about my husband who is gold. Opposites attract much?
I know a particular gold that I am just smitten with other than my husband. From the way she sorts her mail to her closet organization she has me wanting a touch OCD. What I am finding and discovered in the class is that it is okay to not to be good at everything and to take it one step further it is okay to acknowledge that and seek help in those areas where you are lacking. Pinterest is a great therapist for such issues.
Now I see why closet organizers, and assistants have jobs, specifically for people like me who want to be organized so bad but their genetic make up is not conducive or it comes with a lot more effort than I’ve been willing to give up until now.
I am determined to get organized and streamline some processes around here. I’ve been stalking Pinterest and blogs for everything from planners to storage solutions. I am determined to get this house in order and roll into the new year clutter free with solutions in place to stay that way.
Key words? BY THE NEW YEAR.
This means I’m starting now, cause when December gets here I just want to watch Christmas movies, sip on spiked egg nog and play Elf on the Shelf. January I want to hit the ground running not just starting the organization process.
You will start seeing a series of posts called, ” Mimi Gets Organized.” I’m documenting this journey from chaos to order. First episode/vlog will be up tomorrow and will focus on my progress in the Playroom/Homework room.
Have you ever taken the True Colors test? What color were you? Are you organized? Care to share some tips?!

October 30, 2014 at 2:39 pmI have never taken that test before, but I’m interested to find out what color I am! I know that I’m not much of a pinner when it comes down to home stuff, I just like to get down and get ‘er done. 🙂 I wouldn’t say I’m more naturally organized, I just don’t like clutter or mess.

October 30, 2014 at 3:10 pmHello there! First and foremost I’d like to say that your blog is way too cute. Simple yet elegant looking. 🙂
I love my personality! But I do need to get organized in every sort of way. Organization of my thoughts, my work space, at home, everywhere.

October 31, 2014 at 5:00 pmOur Sunday School class did the whole True Colors thing a few years ago. Our main focus was how we relate to our spouses. It was fun!! Now you see, I’m no part of an orange but orange people are supposed to be fun…right? Sounds good to me!

November 5, 2014 at 2:22 pmI’m a “natural born organizer” and it was much easier until I became a mother! Lol. Now I spend a lot more time keeping things organized than I used to because of messes, but it I don’t keep organized I become “grumpy mommy”! I can’t function right when stuff is in disarray. Our closets are dang near perfect (including hanger colors) and everything has to have it;s own spot or things pile up and procrastinate in taking care of it. I’ll be staying tuned for “Mimi Gets Organized”, sounds fun lol

November 5, 2014 at 11:20 pmHey! Exactly where I am trying to get. I need everything in here to have its own space. It is going to be a slow walk but Dollar Tree has been my friend for cheap storage solutions. Thanks for stopping by!
