Organization

I’m Organizing…in my head

Before the end of the year we will be moving to a larger home. In the meantime, we are busting at the seams in this one. Initially I thought I would wait until we moved before I would start putting some organizational tactics into use but the more I look around this place there is no better time than the present to get things in order…besides it will make it easier when its time to move.

But I don’t wanna…I’ont even know where to start. There is so much unnecessary stuff in here that I have to start somewhere. I have been watching that new show on Style called The Amandas and they have managed to inspire me somewhat. Inspired me to peruse Pinterest and that’s about it.

So my goal this weekend is to attack one project and purchase the materials one project at a time. That stuff is expensive. As much as I would loooooove to hit up the Container Store on some “oh money ain’t a thang” making it rain in exchange for shelving, bookcases and closet organizers, I can’t even make it sprinkle up in that joint.

Here is my first project to tackle.

Let me say. My magazines are an extension of my family and throwing them out is NOT an option. Not.At.ALL #magazinehoarder

To add insult to injury I’ve challenged myself to find solutions at the goodwill or other discount retailers because I’m not sure what the decor will be like in our new home so I would rather not spend a ton right now. I just need to get the job done and then we’ll replace with the fancy stuff when we move. I’ll show you what I come up with next week.

…but if my dolla, dolla, bills y’all were real discretionary I would be on some of this right here…

Who knows The Goodwill gods may work in my favor and with a little elbow grease I may end up with something spectacular. We’ll see.

Have you started spring cleaning? If so, what have you done?

Here’s the Thing…

For the past few days I have been in deep thought about my feelings regarding the Trayvon Martin case. It should be said and understood that as a mother my heart aches for his parents to have lost a child under such circumstances with so many unanswered questions.

My feelings in question lie with the “movement”. The hoodies, the skittles, the ice tea…..

See. Everytime something happens people want to rally for the cause and when the cause becomes a has been so does the crowd. See nothing will ever change until there is a movement and not just a moment. While I agree that Zimmerman at least should be in police custody there is a law that is prohibiting his arrest.

Well, when that law was being presented, half of the vigilantes had no idea it was on the ballot or furthermore don’t know who their congressmen are or even how the process works. All they know is a black boy was killed by someone who was non black and they were off and running.

When will people get that change starts at the bottom. Marching yes brings awareness, I agree. Yet awareness that doesn’t turn into action is futile. Just like I am sure we can count on two hands and two feet how many people out there rallying are really about that life.

That life of sacrifice and working for the betterment of all mankind. There are thousands of Trayvons, and there are equal number of parents whose stories will never be told…same story different place. No grassroots movements were set in motion for them. They were forced to bury their loved ones in the shadows and no one cared.

Then the whole racial profilling. Yes, racial profiling is wrong on many levels but please don’t be out yelling it to the masses and then in the next breath say “I don’t do business with black people” or ” I don’t want to live in a black neighborhood”. This is racial profiling..no? Why? They aren’t going to give you good service or they will break in your house.  If you are going to be about the life…Be.About.The.Life. Otherwise give your regards, say your prayers and start in your own backyard. That’s where real change occurs.

My cry is that if change is to occur start at home. Teach your children the importance of voting. Standing and speaking up for all people that don’t have a voice. If we are marching, march for ALL people who have a similar story. They all deserve justice to be served

I’m done.

Beauty Nail Polish

NPA…Nail Polish Anonymous

Hi.

My name is Mimi.

*waits for you to say Hi, Mimi*

I’m addicted to nail polish. I don’t know when it happened or why but its out of control.

Whenever I go in the store, I try to look straight ahead and steer clear of the aisles that house these little bottles of internal joy but they “be” calling my name.

Mimi..Mimi….MiiiiiiiMiiiiiiiii. We know you hear us.

Then I go to them. I buy 1, 2 or even 3 bottles at a time.

I need help.

Here’s the proof:

My nail plates and stamper...that I don't know how to use

Awful. I know. Total count is 130 +/- 5 that are missing because little hands got into them. Sad part is now that I have most of the drug store brands my plan is to move on to building my Essie and OPI collections. There is a warehouse in Miami that sells them for $3-$4 a bottle. My friend Sheena is going to take me when I go down there in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait. It really shouldn’t be that serious…but it is. *hangs head in shame*

How many bottles of nail polish do you have?
