SOC Sunday..The Clutter.The Snowball Effect

For sometime I have been toying with the idea of participating in Stream of Conciousness Sunday with all.things.fadra. Seeing that I have been a lurker over there for sometime and as I am sitting here reading a few of the linked up posts..I’m giving it a whirl.

#SOCsunday
 Ready.set.go
I need to get organized. Stat. My neighbor is OCD as in diagnosed and everytime her children come over they comment on how junky my house is. I want to say to them your mother has a problem but I can’t, so I won’t. Their mother is a really nice lady but her house makes me feel like a slob. I try to keep my house as clean as possible but the organization…is just non existent

first step is i have decided to paint a chalkboard wall in the kitchen. i figure this will get the refrigerator cleaned off from all of the magnets and useless papers that find their home there and allow me to make sense of all of my weekly engagements. This is killing me. the clutter that is. Its not even that much. I guess what I am really thinking is I need a new house. A bigger one. Then I feel ungrateful. I have a nice house, it just doesn’t have enough room. Or is it my lack of organization that makes it feel like the walls are closing in on me sometimes. I really want a new house.

Now I guess I will jump on the fact that the sorry housing market makes me want a new houe. I don’t like my neighbors. They don’t keep their yards up and they play loud music and they just make me sick. I want to live in one of those neighborhoods where everyone takes care of their lawn and their house. I want to wave at my neighbors and walk the sidewalk pushing my stroller. Instead most days I feel like I am living beneath our means. That sounded shallow but its my thoughts. It is what it is. I’m optimistic though..one day we’ll move and until then I just have to find out how to organize and be happy where I am.

Marriage The Mr.

*sings in my Tony, Toni, Tone voice* It’s Our Anniversary!!!

Today is our 6 year anniversary! I don’t say much about the Mr. However, seeing that today is our anniversary I will sing his praises. He is the most incredible man. He works so hard for us and hardly complains. He listens, he supports me in all of my foolery. He is truly a wonderful man. Our marriage and relationship took time to get here but we were determined and we did it. I can say I married my soul mate. I’m so happy to be his wife!

Here is a post I wrote last year about our struggles in marriage and how we overcame them. Go read —-> HERE! Just not sure anyone was reading the blog at that time…hate to let those words go to waste!

On a lighter note, for those of you who are new here I am reposting my Valentine’s day post..It’s an unlikely love story that details how the Mr. and I came to be one. Enjoy!

Have a good weekend.

*cue Mary J. Blige and Method Man “All I Need and loop in your head as many times as necessary to get through this post*

Once upon a time in June of 1998 I met a guy named A.D. Initially I was not impressed, he grew up very different from me and being as shallow minded as I was at the time I wanted nothing to do with a freshman college student who didn’t own a car, or who grew up in the mean streets of Miami, Fl. At the urging of a mutual friend of ours that actually went to high school with him, I agreed to ONE conversation. As cliche as it sounds the rest was history!

We dated from June 1998 to August of 1999. We decided to go our separate ways and rekindled our relationship in December of 2002. Amazingly during that time I never saw him more than two times and we lived in a very small town but people always said he would ask about me. We agreed to give it another shot prior to my graduating from college (FAMU to be exact) and moving from Tallahassee to Charlotte.

He graduated in 2003 and joined me in Charlotte

We lived in Charlotte for a year and a half before moving to Atlanta. About a year after moving here we got engaged..Woot Woot!!

Then a week later we discovered I was pregnant…After all those years, our luck ran out!

Shortly before Lil Man was born we got married at the courthouse.

You see my boy..Peace up, A town down

We had our own little family

Shortly after our trip to Disney in Summer 2009, We decided it was time to add to the roster

All of this because these two people fell in love….

Moral of the story is, if you haven’t found your “love” yet be patient and overlook the material things. If I had stayed hung up on the fact that he didn’t have a car and grew up in the projects this post would have never been!

Heart of Haiti

In light of the unexpected and unlikely earthquake that rattled the northeast last week, I am sure many got a tangible understanding of how massive the great quakes that have rocked Haiti, and Japan must’ve been.

Over a year and a half after the earthquake in Haiti, many Haitians, are struggling to get their lives back together. With promises of aid that never came or is slowly finding its way to those in need, people in this area are still hungry, homeless, and sick. They are still living in aftermath conditions nearly two years later.

Macy’s Heart of Haiti is helping some of the area’s artisans provide for their families by selling some of their artwork in select Macy’s stores and online. 22% of the retail price is given back to the artists to help them feed, clothe and house their families.

Seeing that I love photography, I was ecstatic when I received a hand crafted picture frame from the project. The detail on the fame is Ah.mazing.

Here are a few other items from the project to get you oooo–iiinnnnggg and aaaahhhhhhing. The prices range from $10-$125.

What’s old is new in the hands of Haiti’s brilliant artisans. Steel from recycled oil drums is cut, shaped and totally recreated into rustic, one-of-a-kind giftware defined by sculpted birds and branches.

Cow horn turned chic. Handcrafted by talented Haitian artisans, this beaded stretch bracelet brings bold, organic style and new meaning to your jewelry collection in an alternating light and dark design.

Hand-carved in beautiful obeche wood, these simple servers bring rustic charm to the casual table that’s straight from the heart of Haiti.

Reflecting the ingenuity of Haiti’s skilled artisans, this mirror is handmade from the steel of recycled barrels and named for the island’s sea god, Agwe. Meticulous metalwork gives the exotic undersea design a natural flow, swimming with fish and swirling sea grass.

Please visit Heart of Haiti via Macys online and follow on Facebook for new products and information on how you can help the efforts. The holidays are coming up. What an awesome way to give and give back!
