Ace Hardware 31 Days of Color | Living Room Makeover

This post is sponsored by Ace Hardware. All thoughts and opinions are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of Ace Hardware.

One of the first things I said when our real estate agent swung open the door to our now home was,  “This wall color will have to be the first thing to go.” Well, if anyone is counting, it’s been nearly 2.5 years and, thanks to Ace Hardware, the living room wall color is finally gone.

Working with Ace Hardware on this project helped me out of my comfort zone with an unlikely color that I wouldn’t have picked on my own and we are so extremely happy with the outcome.

Ace 31 Days of Color

To give you the kick you need to brighten and freshen up your living spaces for Spring, Ace Hardware is hosting a 31 Days of Color Sweepstakes. You can enter to win a $10,000 paint makeover and daily gift cards at thepaintstudio.com. While you are on the site, you can also get some color inspiration for a space.

Here are a few before pictures of the previous wall color.

Good. Bye.

We also took the ceiling to white except for the very top of the trey ceiling because I was afraid the color would be too dark but it is just amazing. New couch pillows, curtains and a rug are on the way. I’m also so excited to start hanging photos on the wall.

With the open concept of the house, we now have to paint the foyer, hallway, dining room and kitchen sooner than later. We will follow the Silver Eucalyptus color card palette. To tie in all of the spaces the foyer, the hallway and the fireplace will be the same color, this is why the fireplace hasn’t been painted yet. Look for those changes in the next month or so.

The paint was very affordable and covered so well considering what was underneath. This entire space only took 3 gallons. Much better, don’t you agree?

No purchase or payment necessary to enter or win.  Open to legal US residents residing in the contiguous United States and the District of Columbia who are at least twenty-one (21) years of age and who are homeowners.  Sweepstakes will run from 3/1/16-3/31/16.  Full rules located here: http://www.thepaintstudio.com/31daysofcolor/pdf/2016AceHardware31DaysofColorSweepstakesRules.pdf

Another day, another color to inspire your home projects. Everyday in March, Ace is unveiling a featured color and giving you a chance to win a $10,000 room makeover! To learn more visit thepaintstudio.com.

my new fave home accessory | dyson small ball vacuum

This post has been sponsored by Dyson.

You know you have officially arrived into the land of the sho nuff grown and sexy when talks surrounding Dyson vacuum cleaners go something like, “Girl, I heard those things are the truth. I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one.”

That conversation totally happened.

Oh, pulling this beauty out of the box had me at a loss for words. S E X Y she is.

Not only does she look good but she keeps her weight intact at just 12.15 lbs and she keeps her voice low cause the kids noise is enough. She is 30% quieter than her predecessors. She’s a little short, with the hose retracted she comes in at 2.6 feet. Small but mighty indeed.

The hose extends so long, I was amazed. Remember Inspector Gadget, the hose was like that. Looked small but expanded a great deal. I was able to attach the hose and climb on a step stool and dust the fan blades.

Dyson vacuums are known for their ability to remove dust and other pollutants from the air and this version in it’s smaller frame carries on the legacy with its whole-machine HEPA filtration, capturing over 99% of pollen, mold, and bacteria – keeping them trapped in the bin. This is probably why Dyson are regarded as the best vacuum manufacturer.

Unfortunately mine is no longer shiny and pretty. I promise to come back and tell you the story of scraping the ceilings. This baby made light work of getting the dust off the hardwood floors and clearing it from my sofa cushions.

Update as on 10th July 2018: Fast forward couple of years and my Dyson is still going strong. It still makes light work of the hardwood floors and sofa cushions. But now that stick vacuums in 2018 are not just compact but quite powerful as well, almost at par with their corded versions, I have finally bought a cordless companion for my Dyson Small Ball – a Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute. It sure is tiny but manages to clean as good as my older Dyson. I’m sure in the later years or even months they’ll be a new method of cleaning with a robot vacuum cleaner to make the job hassle free, then no come can moan about doing the cleaning!

The Dyson Small Ball currently retails for $399.99 and is available on Amazon and on Dyson.com

spring cleaning checklist | the kitchen

I like to deep clean at least twice a year, in the Spring and before school starts. Both times I would rather use my broom as a guitar and belt out show tunes at the top of my lungs on my front lawn with my neighbors driving by.  Since the temps will be reaching nearly 80 for the entire week  I’m happy to open the doors and windows to let in some fresh air and get started on the inevitable.

Yes, it’s that time of year friends.

Despite every good intention to stay on schedule keeping my house clean, I fell off the past few weeks and I am not ashamed to say my house is in complete disorder. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I have decided to take it one week at a time focusing on each area, and I encourage you to do the same. The key is once you’ve cleaned that area make sure to keep it on the weekly cleaning rotation to maintain order.

This week I am focusing on the kitchen. I’m just going to go ahead and get it out of the way first. I’ve organized my pantry, coffee and junk drawers so all they need are tidying up. All of the other cabinets, need M A J O R love.

Here is a printable checklist of the areas to include in your kitchen Spring cleaning. I’m going by this and hopefully I’ll be back on Sunday to highlight at least one of the best transformed spaces.

I would say don’t worry so much about making things pretty, the main focus is to get rid of the clutter, organize and take inventory of things that need to be thrown out and replaced.

junk drawer organization

I don’t think there is a kitchen in existence that doesn’t have a junk drawer. The drawer that catches all of the wayward items that

a. Don’t have a dedicated home

b. Have a home but someone is too lazy to take the few steps to place it there

c. It actually belongs in the kitchen but no time has been taken to give it a dedicated space there.

My junk drawer was getting a bit ridiculous. Went to stuff something else in there and couldn’t close it and decided it was time to do something about it.

junk drawer organization

I started by removing all of the items and going through them. Let’s be honest some of the stuff in those drawers need to be in the trash. After discarding everything I used some wire trays and plastic baskets from Dollar Tree to store everything else. I’ll come back around and make it pretty, think gold spray paint and a new drawer liner but I needed it to function now.

When it comes to what I keep in my junk drawer outside of the normal things like spare keys, batteries and pens I try to think of all of the things that go wrong when we are on or way out of the door. Somebody comes in the kitchen ready to go with a nasty or ashy face, there is lint on my black sweater that I didn’t see, I’ll be talking to people and need a stick of gum.

Think about how your life works and make your junk drawer not just  a place to house “junk” but a place that stores last minute necessities so you don’t have to run back into the house when you are on your way out of the door.

I am slowly working through my drawers and cabinets. If you’ve missed any of these posts, here is how I organized my pantry, and coffee station.
