Painting with Disney and Glidden Part II

My post here detailed our excursion to Walmart to select a paint color and a specialty finish for Addison’s room. After much deliberation we decided on “Butterfly Fly By” for the wall color and “Ready, Set, Glow” for the specialty finish.

To get some ideas for the application of “Ready, Set, Glow”  I journeyed onto the Disney Paint website to get some inspiration and decided to go with stenciling as they had done on the video demonstration. Sad for me I couldn’t find the exact Tinkerbell stencils used so I found something just as whimsical.

Disney Glidden Ready, Set, Glow

I tried to let Miss Addison help but I found her help to be synonymous with making a mess so when she laid down for a nap I set out on a mission to start stenciling. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I was surprised to find that the specialty finish went on just like regular paint. It applied like regular paint, however the smell was minimal and when I say minimal I really mean practically there was no smell at all.

I had to do some major tricking out of my camera settings to get this shot of the paint actually glowing

So, let me say my first few stencils weren’t that good. I don’t follow directions well and instead of dabbing the paint onto the stencil I wiped it and it didn’t come out as clean as I would’ve liked the first few times.

Disney Ready Set Glow Paint

After awhile I got my groove and they started to come out better. Lucky for you, you won’t see the finished product until the little shindig we will be throwing the weekend of May 3 where we will reveal the design of the entire room. Although we won’t be in this home much longer, Addison is afraid of the dark and what was once our voluntary co-sleeping arrangement has turned into a burning desire for her to start sleeping in her own bed. I am hoping the glow in the dark design will encourage her to stay in her own room *crosses fingers*

One more absolutely lovely thing I loved about the specialty finish is the fact that you can’t see it during the day. It basically takes on the color of the wall so it is very non intrusive to any other design elements you may have in the room. I had to struggle to get the right angle for you to see.

Disney Ready Set Glow Paint

I can’t wait to see the look on her face when I put her in the bed this evening because she has no idea!

I encourage you to take a look on the Disney Paint website where there is a virtual room painter that will allow you to try out various combinations of paint and specialty finishes to help you make an informed decision. This tool is invaluable seeing that painting and repainting and repainting and ……is no fun. Trust me!

Mohawk Flooring SmartStrand – License to Spill

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias®  and Mohawk Flooring #cbias #SocialFabric #licensetospill

This past weekend was the beloved Dogwood Festival. It is the unofficial welcoming of  Spring/Summer to Atlanta. Food vendors, and local area artists all flock to Piedmont Park for some fun in the sun. This weekend didn’t disappoint. The weather was amazing and the baby and I headed out to join in the festivities and visit the Mohawk Flooring booth to learn more about their new SmartStrand carpet. I was pretty bummed that we got there late and didn’t get a chance to meet Audra Lowe of The Better Show and have a “Georgia Peach”  cupcake from Smallcakes Cupcakery, like the other bloggers but we barely made it due to the insane amount of traffic.

Mohawk has created a new carpet that basically puts one up on any type of stain guard that you may be familiar with. In the past stain guard technologies have had limitations. Over time the chemical sprayed on it wears down from wear and tear or it is only good for a few cleans in the same spot before it is no longer effective. Well look here SmartStrand has upped the game on stain removal. They have embedded the stain removing qualities into the fibers so it is forever effective. For.Ever. Put it down once and you never have to worry again.

So I’m all ears because with the new house I had already said that we would be a shoes off house but you know how children are. I am pretty sure someone will find their way upstairs with some juice or will manage to squish a fruit snack into the carpet etc. etc. etc. With this technology all you need is water and some elbow grease. Y’all know I wouldn’t lie to you, I saw it with my own eyes.

Addison was allowed to make a mess. She was in heaven, she loves a good spray bottle and will spray until her heart’s content so I’m pretty sure this made her day. She chose some red substance and went to town.

Next she was given a bottle with just water. After squirting the water on the lovely lady working in the tent took a rag and lightly scrubbed the stain and wouldn’t you know it started to come off.

Just water and a mild detergent like dish washing liquid. No chemicals or cleaners needed, so you won’t feel bad when you make them get down there and clean up their own mess.

The lovely part is this technology is available in a number of colors and styles. You can even have an area rug created which is what I plan to do with all of the area rugs in the new house, especially those under tables where we will be eating.

Method and Orla Kiely Giveaway!!

Unless you’re new here, I think you all are pretty much aware that my family and I are in the process of building our dream home. With this being my “big girl house” I have already come to the conclusion that I am going to need to step up the décor game. No more mediocre pots and pans, I want everything to be pretty down to the tiniest of  details.

Method has partnered with Orla Kiely, an Irish fashion designer to bring pretty to the mundane with their newly designed containers of all purpose cleaner, hand and dish soaps. I was sent these two products to review and I just happen to think they bring a great touch of color and whimsy even to this house.

Orla Kiely for Method

The dish soap has this awesome pump feature that greatly controls how much product you are using. It came in the Tomato Vine scent which I didn’t think I would like but surprisingly it has a very nice scent. I just loved the hand soap in the White Nectarine fragrance. Great for spring and summer, it had both floral and fruit notes in it but was not overpowering.

While these products are a few cents more than traditional hand and dish soaps they are non-toxic, naturally derived and are composed of products that are friendly to pets, people and most importantly the planet. All bottles are 100% recyclable.

I know you was all like blah, blah, blah.. Well here is the good stuff. You can enter to win this. A bag stuffed with the entire Method Orla Kiely line valued at $230. Enter on Method’s FB page HERE…it’s Easy!

Faith

….the substance of things hoped for. The evidence of things not seen. Not the singer

We would all like to go twirling through life with no issues and know where every piece of the puzzle will land and the precise time at which it will do so.

Not so.

If you follow me on Instagram, on Sunday you may have seen the photo I posted of us picking out the lot for our new home. No, it was not the one I posted last week and at this time I have decided to only reveal bits and pieces of this process because this has been the result of MANY years of praying and crying and wondering why it was happening for others and not me and finally getting to a place where I was comfortable being happy for others and thanking God for where I was even if it wasn’t where I wanted to be.

I am still in such awe that this is actually happening and there are yet two major hurdles in front of us that we are believing God for. As we cross those hurdles I will share as a testimony and not as a look what I am getting. So many of us are going through and just need to see God working in other people’s lives to be reminded that He sees after His children cause God knows I had to learn to appreciate God moving in other people’s lives to learn to be happy with my own life.

The next 5 months of my life are going to be a true testament to what looks impossible. We’ll all rejoice on December 14, 2012. I don’t how we’ll get there but I’m believing. That’s all I can I do.

While I was driving the other day I heard “Nothing Yet” and  it came back to me today and I couldn’t remember who sang it so thanks to Latorsha over at Life is Hard, Laugh Anyway for replying to this tweet…

…and just in case you need to hear it..here you go!!

and a huge thanks to Amber at The Yeyo Diaries and Erika at Blulabel Bungalow 😉 I was having an awful day and these ladies were on it. When you don’t have sense enough to pray and believe you need some folks on your team that will get you back in line. I’m grateful.

What’s been pushing the limits of your faith?!!
