Not Feeling Christmas and Such + Weekend Vlog

I’m not feeling Christmas this year, at all. Clutch your pearls at the fact that we just got a Christmas tree yesterday, as in December 18, one week before Christmas. Clearly we were way tardy to the party because we had to peruse about 4 lots of Charlie Brown “womp womp” trees before we found one. Went to decorate it and as  we started searching for the lights I conveniently remembered I tossed them all out last year because I was going to buy all new ones during the after Christmas sale.

That didn’t happen.

So now we have a tree with no lights and due to a child not cleaning her room, and folks consistently failing to discard of their hot chocolate debris I’ve yelled Christmas is cancelled more times than I care to mention.

Before you call me a Grinch, I vow to gather myself and salvage the remainder of the Christmas season with some semblance of joyfulness complete with a show of twinkling lights and baked cookies and Christmas movies.

Well the elf has been moving around a bit. That has to count for something.

This weekend was a busy one as most of them are. I suppose I move around so much that I don’t realize it until people bring it to my attention. Sometimes I wonder if my life is really that full of amazing people and places to go or am I over committing myself. Trust me, figuring that puzzle out is at the very top of my 2018 list.

Went to Ikea twice this weekend because I can’t quite come to terms with the shower curtain and rug for the bathroom makeover. I’ve resolved to understanding that what I am looking for doesn’t lie in the twist and turns of the Ikea maze. I give up.

My Friday night dinner consisted of Varsity onion rings and a fried peach pie. It was a long week.

Saturday night we had a late dinner with friends.

Sunday I had brunch with one of my favorite people for her birthday….and stood in line at Ikea again. If you’ve never been to Ikea on a Sunday, you’ve missed nothing except heartache and frustration.

Thank you so much to those of you that took out the time to fill out my blog survey. I know it doesn’t work on mobile, but if you are on a desktop and haven’t filled it out yet if you wouldn’t mind giving me your thoughts and feedback on how I’m doing over here I’d appreciate it.

Due to the overwhelming response of respondents wanting to see my family’s weekend vlogs make a come back I did film this weekend and hopefully I’ll stay on track and get back to doing them regularly.

Hope you are having a great week. How was your weekend?

Stocking Stuffers and Last Minute Gifts

This gift guide is sponsored by MomSelect and HP.

Time is winding down, says she who has not started Christmas shopping nor has a Christmas tree.  One of the last things I tend to pick up are stocking stuffers, and to be honest I end up spending way too much on those little trinkets. I tell you, dollar spot purchases start to add up.

This year, I’m sticking to a list and I am vowing to spend a little extra on a more expensive item that won’t just get tossed to the side and can be of use throughout the year.

Here’s a list of a few top stocking stuffers and last minute gifts for family and friends

  1. Amazon Firestick: As more and more people join the conversation surrounding cutting cable the Firestick offers a great option for cable less television.
  2. HP Sprocket 2-in-1: The perfect gift for the picture taker in your life.  This pocket sized blue tooth enabled photo printer takes and prints photos with inkless technology. Comes complete with a wrist strap, USB cable and sticky backed photo paper.
  3. Popsocket: I’ll admit I thought these were useless until I got one. Get these for an adult and they will love you forever, even splurge for the hook that attaches it to the car.
  4. Whitney English Day Designer: Whether someone you know is a die hard planner or not, keeping your thoughts and lists in a central place is life changing.
  5. Game of Phones: I think every family needs this. In a social media crazed world this game is tons of fun. Ironically its family time that includes using your smartphone.

thrifted jewelry finds

Thrifting over the years has been good to me. I’ve lucked up on some gems especially in the jewelry department. If you are looking for unique and cheap pieces now is the time to start snooping around your local area thrift stores.

The all familiar purge and declutter movement is kicking up steam all across the country as we prepare to leave what we don’t want in 2017. Somebody else’s junk will overwhelmingly become somebody else’s treasure as thrift and consignment stores abound with purged finds.

I know some people are averse to thrifting and that’s fine, I’m not and if you aren’t either jewelry pieces are great to thrift. The years have been good to me and I’ve collected some pieces that are unique and might I add cheap.

I don’t have sensitive skin so after a good wipe down with alcohol I’m good to go. As far as caring for high end costume jewelry,  I don’t coat anything with clear polish but I do take care not to expose the items to water.

If you are looking for cheap ways to dress up your outfits, and you love a good treasure hunt be sure to hit up your local thrift stores. When you find something good make sure you tag me on Instagram so I can see!

In a few weeks I’ll be doing an epic thrift store tour of Atlanta so stay tuned!

In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite thrifted jewelry finds, some of these stay on repeat like my favorite thrifted necklaces here and here.

Just a Few Questions

Creating content is work. It is constantly trying to keep in mind what your readers like, and how to bring that content to life in way that speaks to you as the content creator as well as the reader. Unlikely Martha was recognized for some amazing things this year, and I’m finally feeling like I’m getting  the groove of creating the level of content that I’ve been working toward, a level of content that is both useful and entertaining…..or at least I think so!

As I work toward putting together my 2018 editorial calendar,  I want to know what makes you anxious to click the link to an Unlikely Martha post. I need to know what type of content  you like and dislike, I want to gauge where your thoughts are so I can tweak the content to highlight what is working well and lessening what isn’t.

If you would please take about 2 minutes of your time to fill out this anonymous survey I would be extremely grateful!
