{Outfit of the Day} Pink and Green Tunic

I’ve been spending the majority of my days in jeans and tank tops. Nothing glamorous to see here.

Yesterday I photographed a friend of mine that will be welcoming her first child in August. This was the first time I made it out of the house with a purpose this week so  I stole the opportunity as a chance to put some clothes on..not in the literal sense of course.

I promise, there is nothing like a good tunic. Quick, easy and stylish.

This particular tunic has a story. I purchased it at an off season sale in 2009. When I got it home and hung it up, it dawned on me that it was pink and green and rekindled my desire to become an AKA.

I put it in my closet and let it hang there for 4 years. I never wore it. I used it as motivation, when I wanted to give up. Almost 5 years later, it sure feels good to put it on as an AKA.

I’ve been rocking and rolling with these white flower flip flops from Kohl’s. I probably wear them everyday!!

Curly Q’s and Straight Talk with Essence Magazine

Hair can be a women’s greatest accessory, but it can also be frustrating when your hair isn’t at it healthiest point. I’ve talked about my hair journey here in the past, and I was recently invited to talk on a panel about healthy hair. Essence magazine and Pantene brought together a panel of bloggers, youtubers, and a professional hairstylist in order for us to speak our hair journeys and all that we’ve learned through the process of trial and error.

The event was hosted at Whiskey Blue in the W hotel located in Midtown Atlanta. The entire event was a  great opportunity to get some fresh inspiration for new hair products and styling methods. Prior to the panel discussion,  there was a plethora of cocktails, eats and massage stations on hand to get everyone relaxed from a long day…and the Atlanta traffic that day just happened to be of epic proportions.

During the event each of us had the opportunity to share what treatments, major cuts, and successes  we had all been through. I was able to give the perspective of having to manage my hair and my daughter’s hair along with the struggles I face because we have different hair types.

One method that we talked about for achieving healthy beautiful hair is the importance of getting the right balance of moisture and nutrients (water/oil). So that means ensuring that you keep your hair hydrated with steam and water. As well as incorporating oils and cream moisturizers that put oils back into your hair and allow it to hold its shine and movement.

Aside from the tips and tricks, a huge portion of the dialogue was just talking about the fact that as a women’s greatest accessory it is up to every one of us to decide what we want to do with our own hair. At the end of the day you have to make sure that you are happy with the style or state of your hair. We all have the right to make the decision on what we want to do with our own hair. Straight natural, curly natural or relaxed the main goal is healthy hair!

How are you wearing your hair these days?!!

My Skincare Regimen with Dermalogica

I’m telling you nothing makes you slightly obsessed about your skin than turning 35. Or maybe it’s just me.

Seeing that I did nothing more than wipe the crust out of my eyes in the morning and moisturize with some of that Jergens Cherry Almond lotion that I put on the children, I would say I needed to be concerned.

After attending the Dermalogica grand opening a few months ago and learning about their FREE skin mapping service, I find it hard to believe that it took me nearly 2 months to get back down there to get this service done.

I know.

One day in April I finally made an appointment and found my way to the Dermalogica store in Atlantic Station.

After filling out this card, that included information about my health background and skin concerns I was escorted to the chair where the relaxation began.

Post skin mapping, I had a mini facial done utilizing the recommended products. It was concluded that my face was combination, which I knew.  What I didn’t know is that because my skin is dry in certain areas, it isn’t a great thing to use clay based masks….which I was doing every now and then.

She used this little contraption to penetrate the products into my skin. I don’t know what the proper term for it is or what it does but my skin felt like a baby’s booty when she was done….and no we can’t buy one.

I walked away well informed and knowledgeable about my skin type and the types of products that I should be using on my combination skin. Who knew it was going to be FIVE products used every time I went to cleanse my face.

After a few weeks I was sent all of my recommended products and let me tell you……Let.Me.Tell.You.

the truth.

Of course I priced them out because I won’t be using anything else but Dermalogica. They are a little pricey but considering that once you make the initial investment you won’t likely have to buy everything at the same time again. As one runs out you just grab that one.

One of my favorite products is the Precleanse. It is oil based and I was very skeptical about oil based cleansers when my face is already slightly oily but this product is magnificent. It clears away the surface dirt so the real cleanser can get in there and do a deep clean.

If you are in an area where Dermalogica offers their FREE skin mapping service, go get it done. You aren’t obligated to buy anything but sometimes it’s just good to know from a professional standpoint what you can be doing at home to take care of your skin.

What does your skin care regimen look like? Is it just a splash of water and go, or are you high maintenance like me now?!!!

*I was provided product. All opinions are mine. You already know!!*

Summer Weekend

Summer Vacation Week 3

Laid low was the name of the game last week. My father didn’t leave until Thursday and I babysat my nephew all dayTuesday, Wednesday and Thursday  so we stayed indoors and sporadically ventured outside in the evenings when it cooled down.

Friday we snuck off to the Old 4th Ward Splash Pad and playground for some fun in the sun and lunch with one of our favorite families.

After kicking it at the splash pad  we ventured over into Virginia Highlands for lunch at Yeah Burger.

It was my first time there. Everything on the menu is organic and locally raised. The food was a little pricey but well worth it.

After Yeah Burger I took a walk on the wild side and ventured to the Farmer’s Market with two stuffed and sleepy children. Never again.

Saturday the children had two birthday parties to attend and we stepped out to the mall to try and find the Mr. what he wanted for Father’s Day. We didn’t find it *insert side eye*

Sunday, we went to church and I spent the better part of the day trying to get a handle on this laundry that has gotten out of control.

How was your week? Anything spectacular. Headed on vacation? Where are you going?!
