Let’s Get this Garden Started

A few weeks ago I shared with you the plans for my new garden.

I wanted to wait until the weather broke to make some true strides toward transforming the space but due to the weather and my lack of a chain saw I have to wait on someone else to do the hard part. I was just itching to get the party started, so I thought it would be a good idea to start the seeds indoors so that they could be transported whenever the time came for them to move outside.

On one of those nice sunny spring like days I sat outside with the children and we started the seedlings.

Seed Starter

I chose this brand because when the time comes for me to transplant them I just place the entire cup in the new dirt. It doesn’t require me being delicate or disturbing the root system.

I have purchased all organic seeds, and would like to keep the garden as close to organic as I can so after much discussion with a Home Depot garden center worker I decided on this organic potting mix designed specifically for container plants to put in the cups.

After all of the cups were filled I made holes about 1/2 inch to an inch in depth and allowed the children the drop the seeds in.

Not even a week later we have this.

Two of the cups are missing because I sat them on the porch by themselves and they blew over :-(.

I’ve purchased some additional cups to start more seedlings. I’ll update you on their progress next week.

Have I convinced you to try out a small garden?!!

How I Wear Pink with Kohl’s

As a mother I frequent stores that allow me to purchase things for my children, home, husband and myself all in one place. Kohl’s is one of those establishments that I enjoy shopping at because I can get a little of everything in the same place for a great price.

I am proud to announce that I will be serving as a Kohl’s Fashion Ambassador this Spring. I’m looking forward to showing you a side of Kohl’s that you may not be familiar with.  Recently turning 35 I have to remind myself that I can still be stylish and functional while dressing age appropriate and I found a plethora of options recently at Koh’ls.

For the low.

Pink is on trend for this Spring and you know I am ecstatic for obvious reasons!  I love Pink because it is a color that works well with various skin tones and is just an all around happy color. After the winter we had any hints of pink remind me of Spring. Sign me up!

As a SAHM, as the weather warms up I need to keep my look functional and fashionable. I needed these roll up cuff shorts. While still youthful looking the Jennifer Lopez line offers a better fabric and a longer length than the more youthful counterparts!

This blouse was very nice,  light and conservative in the front, I was very surprised to turn it over and see all of this action in the back! It came home with me!

I had a hard time narrowing down my selections so I pretty much ended up getting everything in my cart. The beauty of purchasing lightweight blouses and good denim is you can easily mix and match as well as dress up or dress down pieces for a ton of wardrobe versatility.

Feel free to add in your pink with accessories if you aren’t comfortable with a lot of color. A wink of pink is better than none at all.

While in Miami I wore my Kohl’s finds and my blouse was light and airy, perfect for a day on the beach. Have you been to Kohl’s lately?

#MamanistaFriday – Red Trench Coat

I wasn’t a fan of red long before I became an AKA #NoShade. Truth be told I’m still not a huge fan, but when I saw this lady in red at my local Goodwill for a whopping $1 I had to have her.

Red Trench coat

I love a good trench coat, I’m not really sure if this qualifies as a true trench  as the material  slightly throws it into the raincoat category. Perfect for Spring.

It’s raining today and I have a few errands to run and I am taking the kids to LEGOLand  so fashion and function it is.

Happy Friday!!

Project 52 – Week 8

She’s just earning her keep. Train them early!

I was that kid that old folks talk about. You know the one where it is a darn shame that they weren’t made to do any chores or housecleaning. Just sitting around living and sucking up air. That was me.

My mother never made me clean, consistently at least. She would every now and then go “ham” about how I kept my room but as far as washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, sorting laundry etc. I was never made to do such. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know and she isn’t here for me to ask.

While it was lovely as a child I found it hard to adjust as a wife. I still struggle with some things. Things related to keeping a house that may come natural to others come as a post it note ( a la Being Mary Jane style) on my refrigerator, car etc. as a reminder that I have to do certain things.

I don’t want to cripple my children so they are being introduced early to the art of doing chores. My son has become quite efficient at cleaning the kitchen in the evenings and she is such a help when it comes to taking clothes out of the dryer and placing them in the basket.

What great lessons my children are learning. while doing the tasks that I don’t want to do.

Do you make your children do chores? At what age did they start?
