What’s up?!!

Thank you for all of the birthday wishes.  I can’t even hardly begin to believe that we are already in March.

Speaking of March I am so ready for Spring. Jack Frost has really shown his arse this year and I am over it. We’ve been teased with a few days here and there and that just highlights the fact that Jack is indeed a hater.

The laundry room is practically completed except for a few décor items. I need some curtains and a few more pictures to hang on the wall and I will do the reveal. I found these cabinet pulls at Hobby Lobby and fell in love. Wait until you see how they tie into the space.

Since I’m about finished with the space I now feel comfortable moving on to the kitchen. Ugh. I keep telling y’all picking paint colors to me is tantamount to making a life decision, as if I can’t paint over it if I don’t like it.

My children are growing like weeds. Lawd, how do people with more than 2 children handle the seasons changing and buying new clothes. I’e been watching my coupons like a hawk waiting on the perfect time to swoop in and rack up on the Spring items that go on sale. If they can hold on for a few more weeks without looking like the Incredible Hulk in their jeans I’ll be one happy Mama.

We’re heading to Miami next week for a little vacation. My father is coming to stay with the children. I can’t remember the last time the Mr. and I were able to go away without them…that might be a never have happened. I’m on the countdown. I guess I should start thinking about what I am going to take with me. Warm weather and sun….good thing I’m leaving the babies here. I have a reason to come back home.

Miami

I am pretty much obsessed about the décor of the outside spaces of the house. I suppose that is because at some point the weather will break and I want nothing more than to spend my days outside on the back porch, the front porch or in the garden. I just want to be outside sipping on a little Sangria and I need my spaces to be right. I’ll be working on those at the same time as the kitchen. Wish me luck.

Speaking of warmer weather, I’m lightweight worrying about what I am going to do with the children for summer break.

What’s up in your neck of the woods? Are you up to your neck in snow? Who’s ready for Spring fashion? What are you doing with your children for the summer?

Mimi Turns 35

Sunday, March 2, 2014 I celebrated my 35th birthday.

JCT2

I mentioned here that I was contemplating throwing a big birthday shindig. I opted to instead spend my birthday weekend with the people that are close to me.

Festivities kicked off Friday evening. We headed out to a local Mexican restaurant for a little Mexican fare, margaritas and fun!

Container Gardening Plans

Peeks of Spring have been playing mind tricks on us here in the Atlanta area. Days warming into the near 70s followed by dreadful 40s the next. While Mother Nature is being a little schizo, the truth of the matter is Spring will eventually come and it has me thinking about the plans for my very first garden.

I truly don’t know where to start, but reinventing the wheel is never a good thing so I have decided to use the planters that are already attached to the deck as the home for my herbs.

There are five of these planters in total attached to various sides of the deck. Not sure right now if they will all have herbs or if I will try to plant strawberries in some like the photo below.

Here’s another inspiration photo of  what I see for the space. I want to have a chair and table and wind chimes out there. Can you tell I’m nearing 40!!

While I’m still uncertain about some of the logistics, I do know that I will forgo digging actual beds in exchange for container and box planting, at least for this season. This is the space where they will go.

The bare tree is a Crepe Myrtle and is so pretty bloomed. I hope it doesn’t provide too much shade. We shall see. As you can tell no grass grows there so I think the boxes, planters and containers will be perfect for prettying up the space.

IMG_9147

Somebody…read not me, with extra thick gloves and good intentions will need to go in and clear out those rose bushes. They bloomed last year and were so pretty but they are too far gone and I have no idea how to keep them so they must go. Besides they are thorny and hurt and I don’t like the kids getting too close.

…and while whomever is out there digging up those rose bushes, I’m thinking they will need to repair the deck as well *adds to honey do list* I’m bossy!

Have you ever planted a garden? Do you have any tips for me?

Abby & Co. – Atlanta’s New Mom and Baby Boutique

One of the undeniable truths about being a mother is you never find it okay the time to indulge yourself. The word indulge is not to be confused with something lavish and expensive but instead points to purchasing something as simple as a pretty journal or relaxing candle for yourself.

Abby & Co

Taking “mommy guilt” out of the picture sometimes the last thing you want to do is drag a sleepy, crying toddler into an establishment so you can browse and pick up a few things for yourself.

About a week ago I had the pleasure of previewing Atlantic Stations’s newest boutique Abby & Co. and this store set the right environment for Mamas to pick up something for baby and themselves.

Abby & Co

Full of awesome….I say.

Abby & Co.

From baby shower gifts to stationary to those hard to find baby items they have a little bit of everything. A one stop shop.

I had the opportunity to chat with the wife half of the husband and wife duo that owns the store and she stated that their vision was to create a space where Mom could grab something for herself in the midst of  purchasing something for her child or a gift for a friend.

The entire store was just full of win. I didn’t know where to look first. Totally one of those places where you are mindlessly picking up things and get to the register to realize you’ve amassed quite the tab.

Believe it or not I left with only things for myself and none for the baby. I think I supported Abby & Co.’s vision!

If you are in Atlanta please be sure to visit the store. It is in Atlantic station near DSW. Please find Abby & Co. on the Web, Twitter and Instagram.

Are you still on the Mommy guilt train and need a little coercing to pick up a few things for yourself? Why?!
