Beauty Children Family Hair Random Summer

She So Random

The past few weeks around here have been extra chill. For a New York minute I was starting to feel bad about not really being productive then I got over it.  We’ve been going to bed late at night and sleeping late in the morning. We have the next 9 months to be on a schedule. I think we’ll enjoy these last two weeks going with the flow.

Speaking of New York I am ramping up my preparations to head to the Big Apple for BlogHer in a couple of weeks. I have childcare lined up and the majority of my outfits have been planned out via Evernote in this manner.

I do need to pick up a few things and I plan on grabbing those sometime this weekend. My sense of urgency is real because my son goes back to school on Monday the 6th and I get back on the 5th so everything needs to be in order.

I can’t wait to meet some of my bloggy friends and just have a good time. I have been invited to a few private parties and I do plan to attend. For the amount of money that has been dished out I need to get the most of the weekend.

I am thankful for BlogHer this year because it is keeping my mind off the impending anniversary of my mother’s death which is on July 27, and her birthday is on August 4th. With so much to do I won’t really have time to sit and mope. I suppose this is a good thing.

Lil Mama is now fully potty trained. No diapers or wipes to be found around these parts. She is even starting to go on her own…but if the light is out in the bathroom no haps. I “stared” she says, and “stared” means scared.

I have been on a mission to take better care of Lil Mama’s hair. Y’all know how much of a hair person I am not. I can cornrow really well and I’ve been known to sew in a weave or three. Yes, me. That’s how I made money in college.  I tried out a coconut oil and honey prepoo on her hair and I am a believer. I was putting ponytails in it and her edges were starting to be affected so I have been two strand twisting or cornrowing it. I have seen an improvement over the past few weeks. Now to be consistent.

.

My son took his first flight alone from Las Vegas to here on July 5th. I was a nervous wreck. He did fine. He was such a big boy. My dad bribed him with an iPod. I really didn’t want him to have one then my dad had to remind me that he bought me a Gameboy when I was his age…Wellllllllllllll…..moving on. Could I be a hater?

.

My son is taking up soccer for the fall. I am looking forward to seeing how he enjoys it. Truth be told I never really thought he liked football much. He requested soccer and luckily we didn’t miss registration so I guess I’m now a soccer mom.

I’ll start doing house updates sometime next week.

Enough about our goings on. How are you? What’s been going on in your world?

Talking with Tami Blogger Luncheon at Strip

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a blogger luncheon hosted by celebrity blogger Tami who blogs at Talking with Tami.

Credit

She shared some of her tried and true recommendations for building a successful blog and brand with us while we noshed on our choice of appetizer, entree and dessert at Strip in Atlantic Station.

I finally got a chance to meet fellow blogger Lynn who blogs over at LaLynn’s in real life…

.

The most important tip that stood out to me and one that I had not heard from other bloggers was…Make yourself memorable, show your personality and don’t be afraid to network and mingle. I think that can be a hard one. It is so easy to have personality online but translating that into real life is harder for some than others…I’ve come across a few in my dealings and it is really awwwwwkwaaaaard!

She handed out some great tips and was very open in letting us know how she got her start blogging. There is something to like about a person who is willing to share the wealth, which is exactly what she did.

For lunch I enjoyed a salad, Jerk seasoned salmon with rice, black beans and Mango relish. This was absolutely delicious. If you get a chance to swing by Strip this entree is a must have. I finished off my lunch with a nice piece of cheesecake.

This was an awesome event and Tami let us know that this will be a monthly occurrence. Always a fun time when you get to meet new people, and learn new things. I’m looking forward to the next event. If you are in the Atlanta area make sure to follow Tami’s blog so you can get the scoop on when her next event will be held.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green–A Preview

The other day while I was watching television with the children I caught the tale end of the commercial for the new movie The Odd Life of Timothy Green. The part where the leaves were growing out of his legs. I’ll admit I was intrigued. I wanted to know how the leaves got there.

Then the next time it came on I caught it at the part when he was playing in the leaves. Again I am a bit confused. I finally caught the commercial from the beginning after telling my son to tell me when it came back on.

In case you were perplexed as I was the film is a Dramedy starring Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton who play a happily married couple that dreams of what the child they would like to have would be like and before they know it they get the surprise of their life when Timothy comes into their lives.

The film is  directed by Peter Hedges, he also directed the movie “Dan in Real Life.” OMG, have you seen that movie?  Hee.larious.

I digress.

Anyway I can’t wait to take the kids to see “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” My son will already be back in school. It will be our summer wind down movie outing.

Have you seen the preview? If not, here you go.

Do you have any plans to see the movie?

Want to learn more about the movie.. More info can be found on Twitter and Facebook

THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN opens in theaters everywhere on Wednesday, August 15th!

Bantu-Knot Out…The Remix

I tried it again. The Bantu Knots.

Somehow missed the first go round—> Go Here. I’ll wait.

I took some of your advice and went about it a little differently

  • I actually washed my hair first. Last time it was done on 3 week old dirt that was sprayed with water and product added
  • I blow dried the water off my hair first. My hair holds water so I just did it enough so that it was still damp
  • After blow drying it to a damp state I let it air dry for an hour

Looked like this:

Then, I added about 5 bantu knots to each side using a mixture of Beautiful Curls and Coconut oil, making sure to really seal the ends so they wouldn’t be frizzy

I forgot to take a photo of them while they were in but after playing with them, this was my final outcome.

.

I am pleased with the outcome. If I scarred you the first time, do you think you will try after all?!!
