herb roasted sweet potatoes

I used to reserve sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving only. Yams please. Then I discovered all of the wonderful and tasty things you can do with them other than piling them with butter and sugar. One of my favorite go to side dishes is herb roasted sweet potatoes. The crunchiness and saltiness of the outer skin with the sweetness of the inside is just dam* good.

Cut up sweet potatoes + olive oil + herbs + a good toss + hot oven = good eating

This is the first Friday of the month so the Fab Five and I are sharing our favorite sweet potato recipes. Be sure to stop by and see what the other ladies have cooking.

MJ | Sweet Potato Grits: Love grits? Love sweet potato? Combine them for this delicious taste of fall and Southern eats. Enjoy with country ham, green onions and a splash of hot sauce.

LaShawn | Baked Sweet Potatoes with Feta and Sundried Tomatoes: For those of us looking for alternatives to the traditional sweet potato this holiday season. This is not your mama’s sweet potato.

Bernetta | Garlic Parmesan Sweet Potato Fries: Who said you couldn’t have fries because you are eating healthy now? This version allows you to eat good, get a french fry fix and enjoy all the health benefits that a Sweet Potato brings. You can make these fries sweet or spicy and it will still taste great.

Kita| Sweet Potato Souffle for one: a sweet potato casserole for one.  It is for those who want to hide in their closets and indulge in their very own sweet potato casserole without making any for the rest of the family. It’s the holidays so you can be a little bah humbug and treat yourself.

rainy day style

I love my Hunter boots. L O V E.

A friend of mine asked me if they were all of that for the price and my answer was yes. I’m not an advocate of splurging on everything but some things like designer rain boots make you feel fancy on dreary days.

If you know me you know there are a few things that are just me, and my oxford shirts and “popped” colors are just something I do. Ever since I can remember I been poppin’ my collar. Bonus points to you if you know of that trappery.

fall layers + heirlooms

Fall glorious fall, your golden, and red leaves are pure eye candy.  Your pumpkins and mums make everything right with the world but your wishy washy weather makes me want to throw things, specifically those pumpkins on my porch that I love so much.

The weather extremes here over the past few weeks have been totally unpredictable. I always struggle with whether to dress for the season or for the weather. My one go to look during this in between time is the all familiar concept of fall layers.

Banana Republic Sweater

When I layer and the temps heat up I either tie the sweater over my shoulders or around my waist.

Recently,I’ve been trying to get things in order around here, and in the process of clearing out unpacked boxes I am always coming up on some of my mother’s things. Things that I once planned to only store away but have decided that I am going to wear and use some of these things.

Like this bag.

Banana Republic

It’s a little worn and has some stains but I plan to take it to a leather repair shop and get it whipped back into good shape. It even has her initials on it. *I’m not crying typing this….I promise*

This sweater was a total score. I got it on clearance, and clearance just happened to be an additional 30% off. Paid a whopping $13 for it.  Have you found a good deal lately?

Oh. My son took these photos in exchange for an hour of iPad time, as he is on punishment. I didn’t direct him at all other than teaching him to focus the lens. No more tripods and remotes for me, I have an official photographer. He actually enjoyed it, unlike his Dad who gives me at max 10 shots to get it right.

Featured Living Weekend

weekends around here

This weekend was one for the books and I am beat. Started off with the intention to vlog the weekend and well see what had happened was.

Family fun was all the way on deck this past weekend and we made some amazing memories, shared a few laughs and just had an overall good time with friends.

Cause I am THAT room mom, Friday I got a head start on finishing up my daughter’s class goodie bags, then left the cap to the chalk marker off and it dried up. Know what that means? I ended up spending my Friday evening at Target because you know,  new chalk marker, and notepad, and some clearance kitchen towels and some…..

Saturday’s festivities kicked off with a 9a soccer game. My  son had a baseball game immediately after at 11a. Due to miscommunication and a last minute time change the other team didn’t get the memo and had to forfeit the game. We decided to play a fun game of parents vs. kids since we were already at the field.

Then it was a short stop back at home to pack up a few items that we would need for a bonfire that we attended after Addi’s 3p soccer game.  Following the soccer game we headed up to Cagle Family Farm in Canton, GA which is about 1.5 hours from my house.

They were both back there resting up. I mean at this point I think we all were exhausted but no sleep for the weary

We made it to the farm right at 6. The children played and ran around for about an hour before we boarded our hayride to the bonfire.

Our bonfire experience consisted of 8 adults and in total I think close to 15 children. We roasted hotdogs and s’mores and someone in the party had the genius idea to bring glow sticks for the children. Once  it got dark we put the glow necklaces on the children and let them run and play while the adults sat around and shot the breeze and did a little sipping.

We packed up and started our trek home around 11p and got home a little after midnight.

Sunday, I headed out to church and lunch with my linesisters to kick off our anniversary week.

Earlier in the week I promised Addi that I would press her hair and you already know how that is when you tell a child you are going to do something. After getting home from lunch I literally took my shoes off and went in on her hair. I hadn’t pressed it in about a year and a half and it will be a long time before I do it again so I clipped her ends.
