Me Weekend

Sisterly Love

*drumroll* If you didn’t catch a clue from the title of this post, I went to Philadelphia. One of my very good friends Keysha was celebrating her 30th birthday and a surprise party was being thrown in her honor. Keysha made the trek for my 30th so I was definitely going to make the trip for hers..

My action packed weekend started on Friday night at the Tastmaker Magazine launch party. The party was fabulous and took place upon the rooftop terrace of the Renaissance hotel here in Atlanta. I got there around 8pm with the intention of leaving at 10pm in order to get home and ready for my 6am flight..so yeah, that was a bust I didn’t get home until 1a. The party was fantastic, I was there with my girls Niya, Erika and Trina from Baby Shopaholic.

As if winning the shoes wasn’t enough from the event here..She won a HP smart phone at this event. The weird thing is she told me that she is known for winning things at every event she attends. Hmmmm at this point she is 2 for 2. I hope some of that magic rubs off on me!

So then I rush home and pack. Needless to say I didn’t go to sleep at ALL. Left the house at 4:30a for a 6a flight.

We got to Philadelphia around 8 and headed to Keysha’s house. She was in Atlantic City when we got there. We helped with some last minute preparations and oddly enough when she arrived we were upstairs getting ready. We ended up rushing outside without combing our hair or changing our clothes. We just hung out like old times. I miss my girls, it was great to have us all back in the same place..its been awhile. Anxiously awaiting my next girls meetup out of town. Did someone say Vegas?!!

Me

ONE

I’m one today! On this day one year ago, after being influenced by Erika, I decided to give blogging a whirl. After many failed attempts at creating a header, she created my current one. Loooove her! When I started blogging I hadn’t a clue what I was getting myself into, but I knew sitting at home day in and day out with a 3 month old was getting quite tedious and boring. I started this blog with the intent to have something to look forward to each day, I had no idea I would come across some of the most amazing and supportive people. Some of you have been here since the very beginning and I’m thankful for ALL of you. Blogging has truly changed my life, and I believe it can change yours too. If you are looking to start your own blog, you might want to have a look at some of the best web hosting options, as you’ll need this for the creation of your website. But once you get going, hopefully you’ll have as many amazing readers as I do! You really don’t have to come by here, read and leave your thoughts. THANK YOU so much!

So after a year of blogging I have learned there are rules to this game. Here are a few of the biggies I’ve learned:

  • There are blog “clicks”…if they won’t let you in, don’t sweat it. Being thirsty for acceptance in the blog world is unnecessary. There is a fit for everyone. Find YOUR community
  • Some “mommy” bloggers are the real bullies
  • Fretting about your blog “niche” is needless. Your blog like everything will constantly evolve..just roll with it. Some will like, some won’t. It’s your space, others are always welcome to the red x in the upper right hand corner <---THIS!
  • To get the perks, this is a numbers game. Promoting is necessary to get there quickly. I choose the slow walk.
  • Just because people don’t comment doesn’t mean they aren’t reading
  • ALWAYS show love to bloggers who show love to you. We all were once small fish in the big pond..not that I’m a big fish, I might be a small goldfish now.
  • Don’t lose sleep over lost followers. I unfollow blogs all the time. I wouldn’t be surprised if people did it to me. Its OKAY! We change in our interests. It’s not personal.
  • The Blogger/Twitter beef…HILARIOUS. If you haven’t come across any, go look for some. Will make your day. People can be so petty and insecure.
  • Reciprocity is not always necessary. Laila over at Only Laila said something when I first started blogging that has proven to be true. If I comment on your blog don’t feel compelled to comment on mine. I genuinely had something to say, don’t feel you need to come and return the favor..unless you genuinely want to 🙂
  • Blogging is addictive, fun and world changing. It allows you to step out of your own world and into the world of others. I won’t tell you how my insight on things has drastically changed since blogging. Step out, follow blogs you wouldn’t normally. You might just find an interest that you never knew you had.

Welp, that’s my short and dirty of my first year of blogging. I don’t see an end in the near future. Ever wanted to know why I chose Lipgloss and Binky as the name of the blog? Go —-> here <---- to read my first blog post!

THANK YOU ALL FOR READING!!

Life Me Mompreneur

Motivationally Challenged

If knowing is half the battle then I’m halfway to victory. After extensive soul searching, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m lazy. Lazy might be a little harsh, let’s say time management deficient.

My moniker of choice is “I don’t have enough time.” If I might keep it “real”, truth is I for the most part have the time to do what I want and need to do, its just that I choose not to use my time wisely. If its something I would rather not do, I will put it off and put it off until it becomes a source of stress for me. Sounds like procrastination on top of the time management deficiency. I got problems.

Sooooo what do I do about this teeeeeeny imperfection of mine? *shrugs* Somedays I’m on it, other days not so much. I have big dreams and the truth of the matter is if I can’t wrangle my laziness time management deficiency/procrastination issues and will myself to do things when I don’t feel like it, how will I obtain those goals. I guess my desire isn’t as strong as my will and I have a major problem with that. Getting it together is at the top of my list….the one that I have a hard time following. I’mma get it together. Starting this week. For real. Like as in today. Making a schedule and sticking to it. The revolution will be “blogarized” on Friday. Wish me well. I WILL do this. *writes down weekly agenda*

How do you push yourself to get things done when you just d*%n don’t feel like it?

Beauty Me

Face Time

I’m 32. I would like to think I will forever have my youthful looks…you know Benjamin Button style, some of that Tuck Everlasting magic fountain action. Unfortunately, I know that’s highly unlikely so I have lately been giving thought to finding a skin care system that I can start using now to reduce the signs of aging.

I have given little to NO attention to my skin up until this point. My skin isn’t flawless and I’m sure it could be much better if I gave it a inkling of attention but who has the time. Anywho, the other day I was in Walmart and was perplexed at all of the choices for skin care. It was all kinds of overload to the extent that I just left and didn’t buy anything. I know my skin type is combination thanks to the nice Mary Kay lady at a party I attended. I have heard great things about their Time Wise collection but me being me..it costs too d*%n much. However, the more I keep asking around it looks like I am looking to spend a mini fortune on a good skin care regimen. I just don’t want to.

I have heard good ‘ole soap and water will get the job done..to sticking my head over steaming water in a pot once a week..I could go on and on with these home remedies but I’m just not sure if they actually work. I am suddenly obsessed with finding something that will work for me.I think I am in a thirties, third life, crisis. Get it..30’s, I’m almost 33. No?

Here’s where you come in. What do you wash your face with. Does the washrag and water get it for you. Are you team Neutrogena, Olay, Mary Kay, Avon, Estee Lauder, Noxema, etc…. I need your help. I’m going to do it by popular vote…that’s the only place I know  to start. I need to look like Iman when I’m 55, and the way these pores and dark spots are looking I just might need the next 23 yrs to get there!
