Motherhood Moment | Relinquishing Fashion Control

Thank you to Gymboree for partnering with Unlikely Martha. I was compensated for this post. Children grow like weeds. This collaboration fit well…no pun intended.

The saying ” The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” totally applies to shift dresses, denim and chambray. A few weeks ago as I was cleaning out Addi’s closet I took notice that somehow I have subconsciously curated this child’s wardrobe to be a mirror image of mine.

Her wardrobe is  void of color and all of the sparkle that she seems to love that ails me so. Now that she is on the brink of being 7, I’m pretty sure she is going to start challenging my tendencies to urge her away from the color purple and other shiny, sparkly things that I don’t care for.

I’ll calmly try to step back and let her take control of her fashion future. I’m in that stage of motherhood where I am coming into the season of watching these little people grow into their own personalities. Albeit a little saddening I am truly enjoying seeing her become her own person. Sometimes I look at her and still see that tutu, you know the one we snuck and threw away all those years ago? Now we enjoy true mommy and me moments together that I treasure. She asked me what I wanted for Mother’s Day, I told her to be left alone. She  told me she would sneak  my breakfast in while I’m asleep.

She totally gets it.

My girl is full of life, personality and energy and her clothing needs to reflect that. Gymboree is a great option when it comes to colorful and fun children’s clothing. The folks at Gymboree sent her a box of colorful and fun goodies that I she was able to work with. The classic shift dress, stripes, color and sparkle kind of did it for the both of us.

I really loved the shoes. Hi tassel.

Apparently the similarities don’t stop at clothing. We both need a pedicure.

I love that fashion is a reflection of your personality. My youngest daughter is 9 and likes to dress herself. I hate her style but most times I just allow it. Except for this morning when she came out the room liking like a hot mess and I was like no ma’am…. go change. Now my oldest is 11 and does not like to dress herself. I try to make her but she just prefer me to buy her clothes. So what I do is I pick out things that fits her personality and out of those options she just chooses what she wants. I love this look for her daughter and the bright color really pop.

So amazing how kids have their own personalities and know what they like and don’t like.

I love her choice, that dress is beautiful. I have 6 year old twin girls and they get to choose what they wear daily for the most part but I still do the buying (with consideration for their personal preferences)

I think that is the key, purchasing with their personal preferences in mind. Thanks for stopping by
