I interupt our normally scheduled “thrift” vlog to brag, update you on my son’s first major achievement of his elementary career. Don’t leave read more..I promise a vlog tomorrow..maybe.
Now.
Listen. My son, the one I made all by myself got chosen for the school’s recitation contest. For those not familiar, he gets to memorize a poem to be said in front of his class with a few other talented children. Out of the chosen ones in his class only one, my son will then compete to represent his school in the county wide competition.
I’m stoked.
So this is how those mother’s become crazy pageant dress, flipper promoting, eyelash glue-ing maniacs. Except in my case it would be excessive memorization, and poem searching. Could he be the next famous child spoken word artist? If he wins this we will be all over entering contests. No? Okay I promise…I can’t say about that Easter speech though.
Seriously. We couldn’t be more proud of him. We practiced today for far longer than we should but I want him to win. I try not to show him that side of me. Mr. and I had the talk with him that he may not win but the best opportunity was that he was chosen. I won’t lie I reallllllly want him to win the county competition. I already know what he’s wearing.
Lil Mama’s serious upper body strength and Lil Man’s spoken word skills. We are making stars over here.
What was your child’s first elementary school achievement?

October 6, 2011 at 8:45 amCongratulations to him! That’s so great and I’m sure he’ll do well and hoping he wins. My daughter is in Kindergarten and their biggest achievements would be getting student of the month which she did for the first month of school. Seeing your child excel is one of the most proud moments for a parent.

October 6, 2011 at 11:17 amCongrats, Mimi!!! Be sure to take lots of kleenex with you! I remember my little man reciting his first speech, I cried so much, you would have thought I was at a funeral. I was so proud and overjoyed at his tenacity of overcoming his fear of speaking in front of an audience!

October 10, 2011 at 9:51 amThat’s awesome!!! I hope he wins!!!! I can totally relate tho. I had my first parent teacher conference for Nate (Yes, he’s two, but still LOL) and I was so proud of him bc of all the good things his teacher had to say. I definitely want to make sure I am helping him reach his potential. You never know, you may have a politician on your hands and it all started with a recitation contest!
