I feel like I’ve been so disconnected from this space for the past two weeks. There isn’t a particularly exceptional reason for said disconnect, except for my gross inability to properly organize my life. My well intentions and what actually “had” happened left me floundering trying to get everything done these past few weeks. Everything that was pressing has been completed and now this week I can start with a fresh slate…and those same good intentions to live a well organized life!!
On January 15, 1908 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
If you are on social media and not a member I am sure some are wondering what is the big deal. Alpha Kappa Alpha was the FIRST sorority created for African American women. Our history through the past 106 years is rich and runs deep in the organizations mission to be of “Service to all Mankind” From the Great Migration to the civil rights movement to the issues plaguing our communities today Alpha Kappa Alpha women have been and will continue to work in the trenches of our communities educating and making life better for all mankind.
To have the desire, go through the process, and have the privilege of joining the sisterhood is something to be proud of. So just let the AKAs have this day!!
Happy Founders Day Sorors!!
….and a happy belated Founders Day to the phenomenal women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. who celebrated on January 13.
…for obvious reasons. I’m sure the newness will wear off eventually. Until then you will deal!!!!!
I sit to post this at 11:45p barely scraping by to meet my blog daily goal for the month of November.
Let me apologize in advance for the randomness you are likely to see in the coming weeks. I am determined to get through this NaBloPoMo so at times you will just get the real and raw of my life. Some of you like that cause you are nosy. That’s fine I am too!! After all why do we read blogs.
Anywho.
I just got home from my very first event as an AKA and it was AH-MAZING!! I am so used to being there as an interest. I thoroughly enjoyed myself with my new Sorors and Line Sisters. Cheers to an amazing Saturday night.
Now let me go pour someone some juice and listen to what they did while I was gone….at 11:48p.
