weekends around here

This weekend was one for the books and I am beat. Started off with the intention to vlog the weekend and well see what had happened was.

Family fun was all the way on deck this past weekend and we made some amazing memories, shared a few laughs and just had an overall good time with friends.

Cause I am THAT room mom, Friday I got a head start on finishing up my daughter’s class goodie bags, then left the cap to the chalk marker off and it dried up. Know what that means? I ended up spending my Friday evening at Target because you know,  new chalk marker, and notepad, and some clearance kitchen towels and some…..

Saturday’s festivities kicked off with a 9a soccer game. My  son had a baseball game immediately after at 11a. Due to miscommunication and a last minute time change the other team didn’t get the memo and had to forfeit the game. We decided to play a fun game of parents vs. kids since we were already at the field.

Oh, but Unlikely Martha did get a hit in. If you want to see me in action click play

Then it was a short stop back at home to pack up a few items that we would need for a bonfire that we attended after Addi’s 3p soccer game.  Following the soccer game we headed up to Cagle Family Farm in Canton, GA which is about 1.5 hours from my house.

They were both back there resting up. I mean at this point I think we all were exhausted but no sleep for the weary

We made it to the farm right at 6. The children played and ran around for about an hour before we boarded our hayride to the bonfire.

Our bonfire experience consisted of 8 adults and in total I think close to 15 children. We roasted hotdogs and s’mores and someone in the party had the genius idea to bring glow sticks for the children. Once  it got dark we put the glow necklaces on the children and let them run and play while the adults sat around and shot the breeze and did a little sipping.

We packed up and started our trek home around 11p and got home a little after midnight.

Sunday, I headed out to church and lunch with my linesisters to kick off our anniversary week.

Earlier in the week I promised Addi that I would press her hair and you already know how that is when you tell a child you are going to do something. After getting home from lunch I literally took my shoes off and went in on her hair. I hadn’t pressed it in about a year and a half and it will be a long time before I do it again so I clipped her ends.

Proactive Winter Skincare w/ Curél Itch Defense

We’ve turned the air conditioner off in our home and I am enjoying this time where neither the air nor the heat is needed. Once the temps drop and the heat comes on my dry skin goes into overdrive and to say my skin has it rough is an understatement.

My skin gets so dry in the winter especially on my thighs. I will literally scratch my thighs until little red rashes appear. Unbelievably the Dr. seems to think I just have extremely dry skin and somehow just missed the chart rating for eczema so I often turn to lotions and creams that I can buy at the store to get some relief.

There are a number of things that I can do at home to lessen my flare ups. I’ve used these tips in the past but haven’t been consistent. This year, now that I am being more intentional about things I plan to implement and keep my new regimen of skincare to ensure my skin is well moisturized lessening my chances of discomfort this upcoming winter.

Curel Itch Defense
Here are a few tips to make sure that you keep your skin well moisturized this fall and winter season.

1. Bathe in lukewarm, not hot water. This one will be hard for me, the hotter my water is the better.

2. Use a soap free cleanser like Curél Itch Defense. Soap dries your skin out, this cleanser is soap and fragrance free. Contains Jojoba and Olive oils and with continued use will relieve itchy skin in just 4 days.

3. Consistently using the Curél Itch Defense lotion. This lotion with its advanced ceramide therapy promises to not just relieve the symptoms of dry skin but to over time prevent the symptoms from occurring. Sign me up!

The latter part of the year is definitely my favorite and hopefully I can get my skin under control with the Curél Itch Defense line of products.

I have received Curél products to facilitate this post. All thoughts and opinions are solely my own.

weekends around here

To be totally honest, I’ve been having a hard time getting back in the swing of things and catching up since I was sick. I know I keep mentioning being sick but you know when Mama goes down, heaven help us all. The house is still a wreck, I’m still playing catch up instead of being on top of everything which is where I would prefer to be, but with so many obligations and just needing to take down time when I feel tired things haven’t gotten back on track as of yet but this week for sure.

Our weekends have been full of baseball and soccer games, baking, DIY projects and I got a new haircut.

My new hair was so needed. With a ton of responsibilities and active children, the last thing I want to do is be bothered with my hair. With the length it was so easy for me to just throw in a bun for weeks at a time and I was just over here looking a mess. So 7 inches at my longest layer and 10 at the shortest, I now have a little bob that I don’t have to do much with but give it a little fluff in the morning and go. Kind of excited to see what it will look like as a wash and go now that all of my dead and straight damaged ends are gone. I’ll keep y’all updated on that.

Other than that, we’ve been doing what families do, arguing, living, loving, and maintaining.

October 14, 2015 marks 10 years that I’ve been working at this parenting gig. The retirement plan is up in the air, I haven’t gotten a raise and my hair is turning gray but my baby boy is living, breathing and thriving.

I remember that February day, it was the 14th to be exact and I knew something wasn’t right so I slid out of my cube and ran over to Target to get a pregnancy test. Let me say, Target back then isn’t like like Target now so I was in and out. Got back to the office, went to the bathroom downstairs and all I remember is telling myself to breath. I suppose I was completely discolored when I came back upstairs because my cube mate mouthed are you pregnant? All I could do was nod my head.

After an emergency C-section, 40 hours of labor and a whole lot of cuss words all in no particular order we were blessed with his presence.

I knew we were in for a ride but had no idea. We were just getting on our feet and just this week my son overheard us talking about how we need a new mattress because the one we have we got when I was pregnant with him. We told him that we literally were sleeping on two mattresses on the floor because we were saving our money and he replied with, ” Y’all were poor? Look at all this.”

These kids have no idea of the struggle. N O N E.

As I round a new decade of parenthood, parenting has become a little bit more challenging yet familiar at the same time. He just got braces and she is starting to talk back, this here gig isn’t for the weak but I finally feel able to call in sick when I don’t feel like it, and give it everything I have the next day. After all I’m pretty sure on those days when I completely drop the ball my hugs and snuggles fix everything.

Here’s to my sweet baby boy and his entrance into the double digits!

Oh…and the girls are starting with that nonsense already. I’m not ready.
