Hallway Makeover

For quite some time, I’ve diligently been pinning and tucking away tons of amazing ideas for picture gallery walls that I’ve loved for the day when we would actually take out the time to paint over the last of the depressing browns that plagued our home from the previous owners.

Slowly but surely you’ve watched us transform all of the rooms from deep and dark to light and airy. We had two spaces left to conquer, the hallway and the dining room, and I’m glad to say we can finally check the hallway off. I couldn’t be happier with the result and the blank slate that now exists for us to display our family photos.

I selected Antique White (HGSW4047) a color from Individual Mix, one of the the HGTV Home™ by Sherwin-Williams 2018 Color Collections of the Year. Initially I selected a beautiful color that didn’t pair as well as I thought with my existing living room color, I then decided on the Antique White from the Individual Mix collection and couldn’t be happier with the creamy white that pairs perfectly with the existing room colors that open into the hallway. Knowing I want to bring more color into our home, yet needing a neutral for the wall I decided on Individual Mix because I loved the complimentary colors in the collection. Simply stated, they have taken the guess work out of what colors I’ll be adding in with the runner and photos.

Color harmony is very important when you have an open floorplan. From the front door you get a peek into our kitchen, dining room, hallway and my son’s room. It is very important that all of the colors work well together. Freezer Organization

One of the keys for me when it comes to saving money at the grocery store is knowing what I have on hand. I’m pretty good about keeping the refrigerator clean and stocked, freezer organization is another thing.

I can never remember if I have enough frozen vegetables on hand or if there are enough breakfast waffles because historically I haven’t been able to see everything at a glance because the habit is to open the drawer, toss in the items, close the drawer. This habit over the past few months had my freezer in all kinds of disarray. Addi and I went to work Saturday cleaning everything out and giving the freezer bins a good wash before putting them back in.

Moving forward, no more soda cans are allowed in the freezer. From the residue of busted soda cans to old popsicles left over from summer I had to put in a bit of elbow grease to get everything all clean and shiny again.

I figured if I decluttered and organized the freezer in a manner in which I could see everything, moving forward I’ll know what I need to buy and what I don’t.

One of the major steps in doing this is taking everything out of the box and utilizing freezer bags and a few storage solutions I found at Aldi and Dollar Tree for storage. I won’t tell you how many times I have thought something was in a box to find someone tossed a half empty box back in the freezer and I didn’t have what I needed…and by someone I am totally including myself!

For a little under $10 in organizing bins I am now readily able to see what items I have on hand and what I need to purchase. Dollar Tree has a version of the soda can storage bins that fit perfectly side by side, and the white bins that hold our meat are stackable bins that I found at Aldi for $1.80. I also have a deep freezer in the garage that also needs some love but for now the plan is to keep everything we need for a week’s worth of meals in the house and store ice cream and other treats outside to keep down on the clutter and hope that the thought process out of sight out of mind will keep treats around here a little longer than normal!

The Beginning of a Mom Cave

I’m moody. Now that’s out of the way, I desperately need a space of my own. A space where I can craft and use my sewing machine and spread out my planner stickers, light my candles and listen to my music in peace. Tonight I laid down with the intent to listen to the kids about their day and the next thing I knew it was two hours later, the house was quiet and I was waking up.

I mentioned how I missed out on that free executive desk a few weeks ago, so I lay in bed perusing a few sites to see if anybody had one for sale in my area. Sure enough I came across one in the next town over. I will have to refinish it but it’s in good shape and is for the FREE.99. We’ll head out to pick it up tomorrow.

With clean paint brushes and a whole gallon of paint left over from the bathroom makeover, I felt the urge to get started on my special space.

I’m taking a break from painting to post this. Currently this is the level of progress. I have a long way to go.

I’m thinking white and copper will be the foundation and I’ll bring color in with accessories etc.
