Yes To Skincare Giveaway

Happy Friday!

A few weeks ago the lovely folks over at Yes To Carrots sent me over some  products to to try out. Ironically just the day before I had gone to Walgreens to take advantage of one of their BOGO sales and had already purchased many of the products that they sent over.

After  this review, I have totally fallen in love with the brand and use the products daily.  I would love to give one of you the following products so you can see for yourself:

Yes to Grapefruit..A Review

A few weeks ago the lovely folks over at Yes to  sent me a goody box of their newest product offering, Yes to Grapefruit. I wanted the use the products for a few weeks before reviewing so that I could get a good feel of the products and whether or not I thought it would be a good product to recommend you add to your skincare arsenal or lack thereof!

Yes to Carrots

If you are not familiar with the brand they currently have a Yes to carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and blueberries in their product offering . The newest addition is Yes to Grapefruit and it is touted to help with skin issues such as hyper-pigmentation, as well as help reverse skin damage and enhance radiance.

I was sent these products to test out.

Yes to Grapefruit

Upon my first use of the daily facial scrub I was taken back by the fragrance. The majority of Yes to products are anywhere from  97 to 99 percent natural so I attribute that to the reason why I felt like I had just smeared fresh grapefruit all over my face. I am not a fan of the taste or smell of grapefruit but in all honesty after using the products for a few days the smell wasn’t distracting at all.

The daily face scrub had just enough “grit” in it without being irritating but I felt it was thoroughly cleansing. I’m not really sure if you should use it daily if you have sensitive skin because there was some roughness to it but for my rough skin it got the job done. After a few days I definitely felt like my skin was a little softer.

I followed up the facial scrub with the Dark Circle Correcting Eye Cream

Yes to Grapefruit Dark Eye Circle Correcting Eye Cream

Now this…OMGahhhhh. I wasn’t really expecting much and I wish I would’ve done a before but in the past three weeks of use I have seen a difference in the dark areas under my eyes. It is rather light in consistency so you have to make sure not to use too much otherwise you may run the risk of getting some of it in your eye. Do NOT ask me how I know this.

Post daily scrub and eye cream I applied the serum and moisturizer.

Yes to Grapefruit

Loved the serum. Again, one of those things where you only need at the most two pumps. It covered well. I can’t vouch for the product improvement on its own since it is a group of products but it applied well and I didn’t need a lot to get the job done…in other words you get more bang for the buck. We like that.

Now the moisturizer on the other hand gave me a bit of an issue. It was super thick which I suppose is due to the sunscreen in it. I ended up having to mix it with a dollop of my normal more creamy moisturizer to make sure it went on smoothly without leaving me with the hint of a white mask on my face. I actually ended up not using it much and just substituting it with my much lighter daily moisturizer. My skin is dark so it was an issue. If you have lighter toned skin I don’t really see it being an issue.

For the nights and mornings I was lazy I used the towelettes and I love them mostly for ease of use. You know those days when you are far too tired to mess around with a full skin care regimen. Wipe and go. These again had a little “grit.” I am obsessed with making sure all of the dirt is off my skin so I rubbed a little more vigorously than I needed to. Don’t be like me. Just a few regular swipes as with a washcloth will do. I can also see these being time savers in the morning especially when you have cleansed well at night.

Yes to Grapefruit

Of all of the products, second to the eye cream I loved these Yes to Cucumbers towelettes.

Yes to Cucumbers

They were cooling and removed a face full of makeup like a true champ. I suppose Allure didn’t give them the best of beauty award for nothing. These are extremely cooling and smell great. I plan to freeze packs of these in the summer when we head out to the amusement parks etc. to give myself a refreshing cool down when the weather gets hot and sticky.

I would definitely recommend you give these products a try. The pricing is right and you can find these products in your local drugstore or big box retailer as well as online. The company is currently offing 25% online orders. Great incentive if you want to take these products for a whirl.

Honey Do List

Sorry, in this post I will not be offering up any suggestions on how to get your (honey) boo boo to complete the list of things you gave him months ago. Instead this post is dedicated to sharing with you some of the awesome uses for honey when it comes to beauty treatments.

The past few days, Hurricane Sandy has caused some unseasonably cold temperatures to hit Atlanta and we had to turn on the heat. It was then I remembered how much my skin despises dry heat. I have been itching and applying lotion in obnoxious amounts since the heat has been on.

Between colder temps, wind, and heat our skin is sure to take a licking in the coming winter months. Good moisturizers don’t come cheap, so I was thrilled when I was sent some awesome all natural honey and beauty products from the National Honey Board and HollyBeth Organics.

New research is confirming that honey is a natural humectant that works wonders in attracting and retaining moisture in your skin.  Honey, people. Not only is it good for your skin and tastes good but its affordable and all natural. No chemicals, or fragrances just good ‘ole honey made by bumble bees.

For the past two weeks I have been using the grits and honey scrub from HollyBeth organics and it has been amazing. At first I thought the honey on my face would be really sticky but it wasn’t. I made sure to keep my fingertips wet and it went on effortlessly. From the moment I put it on my skin it just looked well quenched and the miniscule granules from the grits gave just enough scrub to let me know it was working as an exfoliate.

HollyBeth teamed up with Amy, who is the founder of New Moon Skincare and Aviary here in Atlanta to create an awesome facial that is composed of products that are readily available and can be made at home. This facial is excellent for all skin types. I have only tried the grits and honey scrub as mentioned but I can’t wait to get my DIY on and make the other products. Sometimes its just good to go back to what’s natural.

If you want to give it a whirl here you go:

Here are a few other DIY Honey Spa Treatments that you can use to pamper yourself

The uses for honey are numerous. The National Honey Board‘s website offers up additional beauty tips, recipes and a location finder to assist you in finding specific types of honey in your area.

I have mentioned using honey to pre poo the baby’s hair but I didn’t know there were so many other uses, did you?

Will you be trying any of these beauty treatments?

Makari Skin Care Product Review

My quest to find a tried and true skin care regimen is not news to y’all.

If you need a refresher, my post here…the one where I was soliciting skin care product recommendations from you never really materialized into anything as I failed to follow through on many of your recommendations *shrugs*

The fact that I have continued to take my skincare for a joke is coming to an end as I am starting to see more dark spots appear and after a visit to the esthetician I have been told that it is imperative that I start AND maintain a regimen if I want to see healthy skin as I get older.

My skin in its current state is combination. I have some oily areas and I am acne prone on my cheeks and lower chin area. There are very small pimples, dark spots and large pores that are really starting to become noticeable.

In a perfect world I would love to see my skin have

  • Even skin tone
  • No acne
  •  A radiant glow and firmness

I was recently provided three Makari products to review.

I was anxious to give these products a whirl. Partly because they were provided to me at no charge and they would force me to start taking care of my skin. Prior to starting the regimen this is what my face looked like. It had only been washed for the past week with a washcloth…I’m not ashamed!!

Face prior to using Makari soap

The soap felt awesome. It was lightly scented and had very fine granules that gently exfoliate the skin. I could barely feel them

Makari Soap

It lathered very well and went on my face with ease. Once on my skin it turned into a cream and was very easy to wash off. Upon removal my skin felt tight but not dry…if that makes any sense. After I washed I applied the serum. This serum is dedicated to repairing the skin and helping to even the skin tone

Makari Skin Repairing Serum

The serum required just one squirt. This bottle will likely last forever!! Major cost benefit. After applying the serum my face felt even tighter but again not in a drying way, more in a firm skin kind of way.

Post Makari Skin Repairing Serum application

The last step involved the moisturizer. I will say the smell on this was a bit strong initially but it died off quickly. It was smooth and “velvety” to the touch. Again a little went an extremely long way. We like that!

Makari Body Beautifying Milk

I have only been using the product twice a day for the past week. I’m not sure if I can truly say I see a huge difference in some of my problem areas but I do feel like I have seen a bit of skin brightening.

Prior to being contacted to do this post I had never heard of Makari before. I have further detailed my use of the product via Google +. You will find more photos and additional commentary regarding my use of the product there…and while you are over there please make sure I am in your circle!

For the short time that I have utilized the products I feel they are high quality and will most likely deliver on their promise of providing healthy skin. They offer a range of products from brightening creams to baby products. They are confident that their product will work on African American skin in helping to even out skin tone, and assist with problem areas such as acne, dryness, and discoloration.

Pros include:

  • Small amount of product needed
  • Cost effective
  • Saw some improvement after only using 5 days

Cons:

  • Smell could be overpowering

If you would like to learn more about the company and try their products for yourself they can be found on Twitter, Facebook, and the web. Feel free to join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #Makari

Have you used Makari products before? If so, what was your experience? If not, based on this information do you think you will give it a whirl? What are some of your major skin care concerns?
