Monday Mingle…It’s a Partaaaay!

Friday evening I escaped from Suburbia to go kick it with my BFF (Bloggy Friend Forever) Trina from The Baby Shopaholic for her birthday. Every year is not promised so I believe in birthday celebrations…and boy did we have a great time.

Despite the fact that I was coming off a killer workout at the gym where every muscle in my body was sore and aching I put on my clothes and went out to party in spite of. Glad I did. It was great getting out. I felt bad that the Mr. was stuck at home with the children, since there were couples there, but he sent me with good graces…love him.

Hands…A Photo Challenge

As many of you know I am smitten with my camera. Unfortunately I haven’t had much time to love on it like I really want to. I have decided I am going to make time. I have recently started following photog blogs as a way of renewing my interest and to build my skills.

For those who have been following the blog for some time this photo is not new, but when the folks over at I Heart Faces issued a weekly challenge to submit a photo taken of human hands I jumped at the opportunity to enter this photo that I took of the Mr. giving Lil Mama some Cheerios when she first started eating snacks a few months ago.

I was working on an exercise in shutter speed. I was hoping to get her grabbing the cheerio but I got this instead. I love this photo, it was one of my very first AHA! photos. I hope I win!!

Lil Man Mama's Babies Milestones

Sooooo…This is How it All Starts

I interupt our normally scheduled “thrift” vlog to brag, update you on my son’s first major achievement of his elementary career. Don’t leave read more..I promise a vlog tomorrow..maybe.

Now.

Listen. My son, the one I made all by myself got chosen for the school’s recitation contest. For those not familiar, he gets to memorize a poem to be said in front of his class with a few other talented children. Out of the chosen ones in his class only one, my son will then compete to represent his school in the county wide competition.

I’m stoked.

So this is how those mother’s become crazy pageant dress, flipper promoting, eyelash glue-ing maniacs. Except in my case it would be excessive memorization, and poem searching. Could he be the next famous child spoken word artist? If he wins this we will be all over entering contests. No? Okay I promise…I can’t say about that Easter speech though.

Seriously. We couldn’t be more proud of him. We practiced today for far longer than we should but I want him to win. I try not to show him that side of me. Mr. and I had the talk with him that he may not win but the best opportunity was that he was chosen. I won’t lie I reallllllly want him to win the county competition. I already know what he’s wearing.

Lil Mama’s serious upper body strength and Lil Man’s spoken word skills. We are making stars over here.

What was your child’s first elementary school achievement?

Adventures in Toddler Beds

Sooooo…..the other day I drops Lil Mama off in the crib to keep her out of the way while I did some cleaning. She ain’t ( yes, ain’t) even in the crib 5 mins. I walk in just in time to see THIS….

Why? Obviously she din’t get the memo that people don’t plank anymore, and she couldn’t have been using that sweet noggin of hers to think that was a bit of a tumble if mama didn’t get there in time to catch her. Should’ve seen me trying to make sure she didn’t fall while reaching for my phone.

So the Mr. and I decided it was time to convert the crib to a toddler bed. First night…OMG. No matter how sleepy, I have bionic ears. At some ungodly hour I hear little feet, followed by…hi mommy. As I struggle to gain focus on the time on the cable box, she comes to the side of the bed clutching her doll, hollering cuP. Huh? By now I’ve focused on 2:45a. I scoop her up, put her in the middle of the bed. Next thing I know she’s peeling her dad’s eyelids back. Lawd, baby you can’t interrupt the breadwinner’s sleep. Off we go back in her room. She falls asleep. Then an hour later I hear my son through the monitor. Noooooo, moMeeeeeeee *focuses eyes…again. 3:47a. Walk to my son’s room and she is peeling his eyelids back. Scoop her up. Put her back back in her bed. I lie on the floor *dozes off* I feel little feet stepping on my back…she’s off again, wanders into the kitchen hollering eaT.  You guessed it *focuses eyes…again* 5:13a. I just got up and fixed her breakfast. She dozes off at 6 then has a diva fit when I wake her up at 7 to take Lil Man to school.

My son. NEVER did such a thing. Hopefully the new car smell of her ability to climb in and out of bed at will, will wear off soon.

Had this problem? Did you lock them in the room? I don’t want to do that, but not sure I want her lolly gagging around in the dark either. Taking advice…first up?
