Fashion Frugal and Fab Me

Fashion Friday…Rain Boots

Rain boots on the brain. Why? Who knows, just recently everytime I see a pair I literally vocalize my desire to own some. I guess I have worn the Mr. out with my ramblings so much so that the other day,  he said to me and I quote, “Mimi, please go find you a pair of those ugly a*s rainboots, I’m tired of hearing about them.” Why thank you, I think I will! So being the responsible adult that I am, I have given myself a budget of $50 to find a nice pair. Hmmm I’m guessing these don’t fall in the budget…cry me a river

 Burberry

But I did manage to find some rather fab ones that fall within my price range….

Chinese Laundry

Puddletons

Rainbops

Muck

I can see me now, no longer walking around those rain puddles that spring so graciously brings. I’ll be making a splash in my new boots. Hmmm…now I think I might need a matching umbrella and a rain coat.

Do you own a pair? I’m taking votes…weigh in. Should I go classic with the all black or add a splash of color?

Have a good weekend!!

Lil Mama Milestones My Babies

Soooo Not Ready

Today, Lil Mama turned 8 months. Within the past few weeks she has truly made some incredible strides in her development. After what seemed like an eternity of drooling and fussiness she finally cut the cutest little “peg” on the bottom. She has become more verbal, her hair has grown long enough for me to put into ponytails and the biggest shocker of them all is she is already pulling up, and yesterday had the nerve to pull up AND let go.

An eight month old walker? I have a feeling she will go this month. We shall see, my son walked at 10 months, and he started pulling up only 2 weeks before he took his first steps. So looks like she has him beat. Guess I might need to make baby proofing a priority and from the looks of the picture below, I need to keep all clean laundry out of her reach, lest it hit the floor..*sigh*

How old was/were your child(ren) when they started walking?

Lil Mama Lil Man Me My Babies

ATLSnowpocalypse

Yeah, the title is probably a little extra considering  only 4-6 inches of snow fell over the Atlanta area on Sunday evening. However, being in a place that is ill equipped for this type of weather you would think the world was coming to an end. I went to the store and was lucky to get my hands on a loaf of bread. In true Me fashion, I went to the store yet again without a list, spent an hour in the store to get home and realize I had a plethora of snacks and juice and NO meat. Genious, I sure hope we can get out tomorrow or grilled cheese sandwhiches is on the menu for dinner.

We managed to keep cabin fever at bay today by taking a long afternoon nap, playing games and taking a trip outdoors. School is also out tomorrow so I’m not sure how long our track record will last, but I am optimistic! The ice is so bad that the predictions are it will be Thursday before the temperature reaches above freezing, so it looks like we have a few more days hanging out in the crib. One thing I don’t believe in is slipping and sliding. The Milf mobile is almost paid for, no mishaps needed whatsoever!

Here are a few pictures from our trip outside. Check Lil Mama’s face. I don’t think she was feeling it!

Reading is FUNdamental

A friend of mine and I have decided to start a book club here in the Atlanta area. It seems with the growing popularity of the Nook, iPad and other eReaders many of us are rediscovering our passion for reading. Last night I started reading the first selection of our book club entitled “Glorious” by Bernice McFadden. I won’t tell you instead of getting some shut eye, I was nestled under the covers at 4a reading this book in its virtual form when I should’ve been asleep in anticipation of hearing cries through the baby monitor, which by the way Lil Mama did not disappoint and woke up at 5a just when I decided to shut my eyes…I digress.

Last night was actually my first experience  reading a virtual book and to tell you the truth it was a bit awkward at first. I mean, there is something soothing about curling up, feeling the roughness of the pages in an actual book that sliding your finger across a screen just can’t provide. I struggled to find a position that was comfortable and then the iPad got kind of heavy. I finally settled with it laying on the bed and my head on the pillow and that worked well until I took too long reading a page and the screen blacked out and I had to enter my password over and over agian. A quick change to the settings resolved this issue, however I just wasn’t feeling the whole experience. I seemed to have enjoyed reading magazines more than the book on the device and I am sure it is because of the vivid colors and graphics that comprise a magazine in comparison to the boring black words/white background of a book.

I started to think of the appeal of the eReader and found myself coming up short. I mean it is convenient and let’s keep it real its just plain out neat, but the main question at hand is does the functionality of it outweigh its whimsy. I’m not sure it does, or maybe I just need to take more time with it.

Have you used an eReader? How was your experience? Can you offer any suggestions that might make it worth its weight in dollars..cause in my world if it don’t make sense, it ain’t worth the dollars.
