#OOTD | Tight Knit

Sorority life is not for everyone and I totally get that but for those that know the love and respect for a line brother or sister it is hard to explain the connection that you feel. The bond of sisterhood for me is one that has earned people  their due place in my life and heart just as a member of my family or life long friends have. The bond, the knit if you will of some of these relationships is unbreakable.

I don’t get out that much during the week, but my line sister was celebrating a birthday this week and it was only right that we got out to catch up on life and such. Getting out means I put on real clothes and hopefully this will be the beginning of Fashion Fridays.

We grabbed a super casual lunch because she was on lunch break so I kept it simple.

I’ve been shopping a lot for fall and just loving on knits. I’ve purchased lots of knit sweaters…tight knits, and chunky knits have been at the top of my list.

How is your fall wardrobe shaping up? Oh…and can somebody comment about how neatly mowed and green the grass is, my husband/photographer just kept talking about how nobody would pay attention to my outfit but would be looking at his lawn….as if.

Little Girls Rock Dresses with Olive Mae Clothing

Addison was provided two dresses to facilitate this review. All posing, expressions and thoughts are hers.

If you parent a little girl then you may know all about the dress and tutu phase that some of them go through. For those who’ve been around these parts long enough, I’m sure you remember when my Addi was in her tutu phase. We are now in the dress phase, I’m not much of a dress wearer so the struggle for me to purchase dresses for her has become very real these past few months.

Olive Mae clothing reached out to me, and I thought this would be right up her alley, so her and I sat and looked at the laptop and she happily selected two dresses that she wanted. My input was not taken into consideration but she did a great job!

One of my favorites is this super girly dress. I loved the details on the neckline, sleeves and hem.

So let me mention, she not only had to pick the dresses but had to do the styling as well. Wasn’t too keen on the Uggs with this cute high low number but you know….some battles just aren’t worth the fight

{How To} Natural Hair Kids Protective Style

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Just For Me. I received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

Keeping my daughter’s hair in protective styles is not only good for my time but also good for her hair. I wash her hair weekly with the Just for Me Hair Milk collection, and dependent on my time I will either cornrow her entire head or cornrow the back and do something quick with the top. One of my go to styles is this quick  twisted pin up style that I have to refresh just once during the week.

Start with freshly washed, or in this case untwisted hair.

Apply a styling aid. I applied the Just for Me gel and Curl Perfecter for hold, and sheen. You can find these products at your local Walmart and they are really great in helping to detangle and smooth out the hair, making sure you get a sleek finish. I put a small bit on and finger detangled prior to twisting.

To complete this style you will also need bobby pins.

After applying the product of your choice, haphazardly twist chunks of hair. No rhyme or reason to this step, you can choose large or small twists. Make sure to give the twists a little twirl at the end to seal the ends, which I didn’t do in this picture!

Now you are ready to pin. Leave out a few twists in the front, while you start to pin from the back. I suggest playing with the twists before pinning to make sure you get a result that you like. It is likely each time you do this style you will end up with something different.

Once you’ve secured the back, get creative with the few twists left in the front. Swoop to the side, or pin straight back, this is what gives the style flavor.

Our new wash routine has truly been made so much easier with use of the #5FingerChallenge and Just for Me Hair Milk Collection. You can read about the wash routine here. To make wash time a little more bearable try using the #5FingerChallenge by detangling with your fingers. The results are better for the hair and hopefully less stress on you as we know wash days for some can be a struggle!

Italian Sausage Tortellini

Italian Sausage Tortellini

Our weeks have been crazy with, ballet, piano, baseball, and soccer practices.  Without proper planning these next few months could dig a serious hole in our pockets with eating out and I’m determined not to let that happen so I’ve been experimenting with new quick, easy and tasty recipes that make for great left overs. Monday and Tuesdays are the worse and my husband and I have to split directions each with a kid in tow. On these days I either cook early or the night before and reheat on low on the stovetop instead of the microwave.

Unfortunately there were no leftovers from this recipe. Even after I  burned the tortellini a little these folks scraped the pot and were looking for more. I put this one at the very top of the must make list.

I used turkey Italian Sausage with the following ingredients.

Italian Sausage Tortellini

Prior to making this recipe I had never had tortellini. I went on a whim and grabbed this brand because it was all that was on the shelf and it was awesome…I mean considering I had nothing else to measure it to. So use your judgment but this brand worked for me.

Total time:
Serves: 4
Quick and Easy Tortellini
Ingredients
  • 1 TBS olive oil
  • 2 cups baby spinach (fresh is best)
  • 2cups diced onions
  • 1 pound of Italian Sausage ( I used turkey)
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 14.5 oz can of petite diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 heavy cream
  • 9 oz. box of tortellini (boxed or fresh based on preference)
  • salt and pepper
Instructions
  1. Heat olive oil in a non stick skillet. Once the oil is hot add the onions and cook until translucent. Add sausage and break into crumbles as it cooks ( squeeze the sausage out of the casing prior to starting to cook, makes life easier and the onions won’t burn). Turn the heat up a little until the sausage is cooked then reduce the heat to low.
  2. Add in garlic, broth, tomatoes, and cream. Stir well until ingredients are well blended.
  3. Add in tortellini and increase heat until boiling
  4. Reduce heat and cover, cooking for about 15 minutes or until the tortellini becomes tender.
  5. Now season with salt and pepper to taste. Taste before you start adding salt and pepper, I didn’t really add much of either because it didn’t need it.
  6. After seasoning to taste add spinach and cover again until the spinach is wilted.
