LOVE

Happy Valentine’s Day. I’m not a big celebrater (is that a word) of the day because love is to be given on a daily basis but I’ll take a few chocolates.

I am going to repost my Valentines post  of how the Mr. and I became husband and wife. If you were reading last year this is old news. For my new readers here is my unlikely love story!!

*cue Mary J. Blige and Method Man “All I Need and loop in your head as many times as necessary to get through this post*

Once upon a time in June of 1998 I met a guy named A.D. Initially I was not impressed, he grew up very different from me and being as shallow minded as I was at the time I wanted nothing to do with a freshman college student who didn’t own a car, or who grew up in the mean streets of Miami, Fl. At the urging of a mutual friend of ours that actually went to high school with him, I agreed to ONE conversation. As cliche as it sounds the rest was history!

We dated from June 1998 to August of 1999. We decided to go our separate ways and rekindled our relationship in December of 2002. Amazingly during that time I never saw him more than two times and we lived in a very small town but people always said he would ask about me. We agreed to give it another shot prior to my graduating from college and moving from Tallahassee to Charlotte.

He graduated in 2003 and joined me in Charlotte

We lived in Charlotte for a year and a half before moving to Atlanta. About a year after moving here we got engaged..Woot Woot!!

Then a week later we discovered I was pregnant…After all those years, our luck ran out!

Shortly before Lil Man was born we got married at the courthouse.

You see my boy..Peace up, A town down

We had our own little family

Shortly after our trip to Disney in Summer 2009, We decided it was time to add to the roster

All of this because these two people fell in love….

Moral of the story is, if you haven’t found your “love” yet be patient and overlook the material things. If I had stayed hung up on the fact that he didn’t have a car and grew up in the projects this post would have never been!

Happy Valentines Day!

Co-Sleep = No-Sleep

We semi co-sleep. As in, she starts off in her bed and migrates to ours sometime in the wee hours of the morning. Remember this….

Yeah, so since she has free reign to remove herself from her now toddler bed I welcome her sweet face into our bed when she feels the urge, which is every night.

She is my last baby and I adore feeling her little body nestled under mine as I enjoy my tiny sliver of bed real estate which is usually on the very edge. Her feet in my back or my hair tangled in her hand. I really do. I enjoy these moments because I will never experience them again.

I write this at 4:30 a because she punched me in my face in my sleep and now I’m up. PUNCHED! Yes, my face is hurting. I wanted to cry. I didn’t know what hit me, and to think she never woke up. The sleep place violence is becoming increasingly and increasingly more prevalent and I know I can’t make her stay in her bed so I need some suggestions. My son slept with my mother when she was alive and when she died we didn’t have an issue with him he was old enough to stay in his own bed.

How did you rectify the bed bullying?

Punkin’ Patch

I’m only a week late but better late than never. Last Friday, October 14 to be exact was my son’s 6th birthday. Every year I say we aren’t going to do anything and every year we end up doing something. For the past few years, I wanted to take them to the pumpkin patch but the Mr. said that was lame. Well I made the executive decision this year for us to go and who knew….he had a good time!

We had a ball. At first I felt a little bad that I wasn’t feeding everybody but at $10/person and nearly 30 people in attendance including parents we had to cut corners but it all worked out. The place was a working farm. They had hayrides, a corn maze, bounce house, a train ride, and a ton of other stuff for the children to do. They barely wanted to eat the cupcakes and take pictures before they were off and running. I can’t believe my baby is 6.

Here’s a few pictures of our outing.

Sooooo…This is How it All Starts

I interupt our normally scheduled “thrift” vlog to brag, update you on my son’s first major achievement of his elementary career. Don’t leave read more..I promise a vlog tomorrow..maybe.

Now.

Listen. My son, the one I made all by myself got chosen for the school’s recitation contest. For those not familiar, he gets to memorize a poem to be said in front of his class with a few other talented children. Out of the chosen ones in his class only one, my son will then compete to represent his school in the county wide competition.

I’m stoked.

So this is how those mother’s become crazy pageant dress, flipper promoting, eyelash glue-ing maniacs. Except in my case it would be excessive memorization, and poem searching. Could he be the next famous child spoken word artist? If he wins this we will be all over entering contests. No? Okay I promise…I can’t say about that Easter speech though.

Seriously. We couldn’t be more proud of him. We practiced today for far longer than we should but I want him to win. I try not to show him that side of me. Mr. and I had the talk with him that he may not win but the best opportunity was that he was chosen. I won’t lie I reallllllly want him to win the county competition. I already know what he’s wearing.

Lil Mama’s serious upper body strength and Lil Man’s spoken word skills. We are making stars over here.

What was your child’s first elementary school achievement?
