Friendsgiving Plans

We finally have a menu and it was absolutely none of my doing. For the past four years we have hosted at our home and I have taken charge of planning the menu and doing the shopping but I’m happy to announce that this year the table has turned and my husband is taking over the festivities this year. He is headed to the farmers market in the morning to gather our trimmings.

Everyone including me has been assigned their dish via group text. I was  assigned the cranberry sauce. Yes, I shall open the can, tip it over until the cranberry sauce slides out, and the remainder of the time I will be seated with a glass and decorating my house for Christmas.

Did I mention we will be eating off of paper plates and drinking out of paper cups. We are skipping out on fancy this year, and I am truly looking forward to our laid back gathering of friends and family.

I’m thinking of coming up with some fun games like charades and maybe amp every one up to go Christmas caroling. I may get crafty and create some type of silly place settings I’m still thinking through some non traditional things we can do to really focus on being thankful for what this year has given us, specifically each other.

I’m starting to feel flustered at all that must happen in the next four weeks but I’m just breathing through and tackling one day at a time. I encourage you to do the same.

How is your Thanksgiving planning going? Are you cooking or washing the dishes?

Elf on the Shelf Finale

Bella and Charlotte have been a Christmas tradition in our home since 2013. Just when I thought I would move on to another tradition and let everything out of the bag, today I was excitedly informed that Addison had gotten word that Bella and Charlotte are busy at the North Pole packing their suitcases to come see us.

WHYYYYYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I think the elves moved a whole 5 times last year. Now I’m left holding my plan in shattered pieces. I am committing to making this the best year ever for her memories. There will not be a next year, Bella and Charlotte will turn into regular Christmas decor in 2018 and find themselves placed amongst the nutcrackers and garland like everything else.

Maybe I’ll come back with a printable and a fun list of places to hide them to share with you by Wednesday. Please don’t hold me to this.

Excuse me, while I go try to remember where I put them.

Currently

It’s been a long day. I’ve done way too much in 24 hours and my capacity for creating something extremely thought provoking and insightful to fulfill my blog a day challenge is non existent.

So I’m doing a “Currently” post that I am borrowing from Lashawn. Basically it highlights all of the things I’m into right now.

CURRENTLY WATCHING

Queen Sugar. I’m behind and I’m trying to catch up but I’ll just say d*mn Darla.

Married to Medicine

Flip or Flop Fort Worth

CURRENTLY READING

CURRENTLY MAKING

…a mess. I’m trying to get my Mom Cave together and sometimes things  have to fall all the way apart before they come together. There is stuff everywhere.

This oven roasted chicken for dinner tomorrow

CURRENTLY FEELING

A lot better from the other day.

Like the energy of some folks around me isn’t right. I know I’m not everybody’s cup of tea, but I’m the most non malicious person ever. I won’t start anything but I lie in wait, and watch everything. If someone calls me to play, I will oblige them.

CURRENTLY LOVING

Creamy baby oil from the Dollar Tree

Wet and Wild gel nail polish

My new plant

Houseplant decor

Veni, Vidi………..

I’m all for transparency. I’ve been vocal about people not looking at my Instagram squares and the pretty pictures I take and using those little snippets to create a vision of what this life looks life. I’ll tell you, I’m wealthy because of my family and my positive attitude but sometimes a sister feels beat down, discouraged and overwhelmed.

Lately I’ve been feeling more like I came, I saw, and I got conquered.

Today I just decided I was going to sit in those feelings for a minute. Sit in them, let them make me sad, let them make me ponder exactly what I’m  doing with my life outside of being a wife and mother. Do I take the right or left path? Why is she getting more opportunities than me? When will it be my turn? All of that.

I’m pretty good at pushing negativity out of my way but sometimes I have to sit in my thoughts so they can encourage me to go after that thing and keep pressing.

I sat for a long time today. I wanted the tears to come because there is something cleansing  about a good cry that releases the frustration, but they didn’t fall. They aren’t far off, but clearly not close enough because I would’ve liked to wrap up the pity party today.

I guess the timing isn’t right and we all know it is everything.

Here’s to not having to feel forced to feel your best everyday. Here’s to showing the world your vulnerability. Here’s to all of us who want the tears to fall already but they won’t. They will in due time, the question is do we let them water our seeds or drown our intentions.

I’m a gardener. How about you?
