The Happy Planner | How I’m Planning in 2017 + Video

Stationery has always been my jam. At a very young age I learned to appreciate the satisfying thrill attached to school supply shopping and having to stack nearly a hundred sheets of paper under the one I was writing on to get the right feel, and balling said paper up and starting again when my handwriting didn’t come out right.

The internets let me know that my special kind of stationery enthusiasm wasn’t off at all. I mean I’ve seen people get down right ugly in some of these Facebook groups when it comes to PAPER and WRITING of all things.

Last week Trina over at The Baby Shopaholic and I got together to discuss our goals for 2017. We filmed a fun video sharing the inside of our planners and how we are using them. After you check out the video head over to her blog to see how she plans!

Planning in these last few years has not only helped me gather my whole life together it has also given me an artistic outlet that I enjoy tremendously. I am what is considered a functional planner. I decorate a little bit but I’m not extreme like others I’ve seen. I look at some of these folks layouts and think, do they not have real things to do with every box stickered out….Each planner to his own.

Last year, after trying out the daily version of the Target edition of the Day Designer I decided to move back to The Happy Planner when they offered the horizontal layout. I was not a fan of the vertical layout at all, that was a contributing factor to me giving it the boot last year.

I am currently using the Big Happy Planner. The size of my planner was a new introduction to the line this year. The classic size is a tad smaller but I like lots of space to write and so far so good.

While I told myself I wouldn’t get into all of the stickers,  when The Happy Planner released their new sticker books  I couldn’t resist. Michael’s had the nerve to offer some pretty good deals on planner accessories at the end of the year that I just couldn’t pass upsonI grabbed a few.

I just love some of these stickers, especially since there is a mix of matte, shiny and clear stickers. I mean who can resist Hunter like rain boot, and bobby pin stickers.

I keep my planning simple. Weekly I create a master list of ALL activities. Something as small as sweeping the porch gets put on there. From this master list, I create my daily to do lists. I have decided on using one planner this year and added in some additional sheets to the back for notes, meal planning and other information I need to keep on hand.

I am also using a planner cover, that is sold separately from the planner itself. It comes complete with pockets, the larger pockets are perfectly sized to slide a sticker book in.

When it comes to planning I am also staying true to the 5 Lists You Must Create Weekly to Simplify Your Life. A mix of these lists with keeping everything I have to do written down, I’m on my way to a well organized 2017!

How are you planning in the new year? Are you a pen and paper or digital type of planner?

Eyecandy Project 52

The Eyecandy Project 52 | 1/52

If I jog my memory, I think it is accurate to disclose that there has not been one year since 2011 that I haven’t started some sort of photo challenge on this blog that I didn’t bother to finish.

With my focus on fleek now…if people even say “fleek” anymore, I’m joing  Lashawn over at Everyday Eyecandy for her Eyecandy Project 52.

This week’s theme was ” You at the Beginning.” She made mention that it didn’t have to be a selfie, but could indeed show exactly who you are outside of the physical.

This is me thinking. My mind is always going. To be matter of fact it can get annoying at times, switches direction sporadically and causes me to always keep pen and paper handy. Unfortunately my memory isn’t as swift so writing things down is a must for me.

I took this with my Canon T3i, tripod and a remote. The lighting and editing isn’t as perfect as I would like it to be, however this pose is me. Hoping that the one I take at the end of the year is in an actual office space.  I find myself in this position always, thinking of that master plan. You know the one, the one that is going to make us rich one day.

Wait for it.

Ponce City Market

Seeing before and after transformations will never get old to me. Looking at something old and dilapidated transformed into something new is just a reminder that everything and everybody can change. Ponce City Market in Atlanta is proof that you can turn an old, ugly thing into something pretty and practical.

In high school, I remember passing the old Sears and Roebuck factory on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Midtown Atlanta.  It was just there, huge, old, and scary looking. Then it was transformed into City Hall East before I went off to college. Years later I heard rumblings that the building had rats and such. You know Urban Legends are real things.

Then a few years ago news came out that the city of Atlanta sold the building to a developer and great things were in store for restoring the space into a mixed use development. This news came right at a time when the area was seeing a resurgence in vitality and the addition of some of your more popular stores and walk to coffee shops and……

Gentrification is a mixed bag. It really is.

Last week I finally made it down there to see what all the hoopla was about. Trina and I had lunch and talked about our plans for the new year.

Ponce City Market

On our way out I couldn’t help but snap a few photos of the inside Ponce City Market. I’d seen enough Snaps and Instagram photos to get an idea of what the space looked like. However, seeing it with my own eyes made me understand just how genius it was to turn that unused space into something useful for the area. I can’t wait to take my kids back so we can really explore some of the wall murals and its connection to the Atlanta Beltline.

Again. Gentrification IF done right has so much to offer.

It was extremely crowded and it was raining cats and dogs so we couldn’t explore many of its features and attractions, specifically the rooftop. I plan to head back soon on an off day to  really get some good photos and see all that it has to offer.

If you are in Atlanta or plan to visit, add Ponce City Market to your list of places to visit if you haven’t already. There is so much growth in the city that I am looking forward to really getting out and exploring. I think every major city is seeing a touch of growth and revitalization, take the opportunity to go out and be a tourist in your own town. I’ll be sharing more of my local adventures this year.

Hello, date nights and family excursions!

Magnolia Story | My Thoughts on the Book

One of my good college friends surprised me and sent me a copy of The Magnolia Story over the holidays. After fishing it out of the mailbox and skipping back to the house I wish someone could’ve caught my reaction as I unboxed it. Had she been stalking me at Target a few days earlier and seen me put the lone copy back on the shelf because it had seen better days, and then telepathically tapped into my thoughts of going to the bookstore to pick it up?

Really and truly SHEE is just dope like that!

Fast forward to two days later as I flipped the last page and closed the back cover shut I walked away from The Magnolia Story feeling inspired and I personally upgraded my “fan girl” status to another level.

Reading the back story of their relationship and early family years, coupled with the fact that they weren’t afraid to share how they had been dead broke and struggling  and how God kept putting amazing people in their lives that  supported their dreams and ideals just left me ready to walk into 2017 fearless and ready to pour my resources albeit limited into helping others.

What we see on TV is the culmination of them walking blindly by faith listening to their gut and that still small voice as they stumbled time and time again and made difficult decisions that didn’t seem so great at the time but eventually pieced themselves together into a budding empire.

A byproduct of my over thinking everything won’t let me just look at the surface of things. While I love Fixer Upper, and am seriously thinking about heading back to Waco to visit Magnolia Market again, the real source of my fandom is their determination and faithfulness to their family, dreams and believing that something amazing would happen if they just stayed the course.

That right there will preach to anyone who is watching and listening.

The Magnolia Story was an engaging, easy read. If you like feel good, inspirational stories this is one to grab.
