ATLSnowpocalypse

Yeah, the title is probably a little extra considering  only 4-6 inches of snow fell over the Atlanta area on Sunday evening. However, being in a place that is ill equipped for this type of weather you would think the world was coming to an end. I went to the store and was lucky to get my hands on a loaf of bread. In true Me fashion, I went to the store yet again without a list, spent an hour in the store to get home and realize I had a plethora of snacks and juice and NO meat. Genious, I sure hope we can get out tomorrow or grilled cheese sandwhiches is on the menu for dinner.

We managed to keep cabin fever at bay today by taking a long afternoon nap, playing games and taking a trip outdoors. School is also out tomorrow so I’m not sure how long our track record will last, but I am optimistic! The ice is so bad that the predictions are it will be Thursday before the temperature reaches above freezing, so it looks like we have a few more days hanging out in the crib. One thing I don’t believe in is slipping and sliding. The Milf mobile is almost paid for, no mishaps needed whatsoever!

Here are a few pictures from our trip outside. Check Lil Mama’s face. I don’t think she was feeling it!

How was your weekend?

Christmas Frugal and Fab My Babies

Gone Elfing

Prior to Friday I had been a bad little elf. Not one gift had been purchased, not.one. I can honestly say I am in the Christmas spirit but the urge to shop has failed to hit me this year. However, there is nothing like a good deal to put a little fire under the tooshie to get out and get moving. I came across the deal Walmart was having this weekend where you purchased the Wii for $199 and got a $75 gift card back at the time of purchase. Just what I needed!! Headed out Friday night to count it..3 different stores before I was able to find one, and then it was on and poppin’ swiping card here, there and everywhere!!

Sunday, filled the gas tank up and hit the road in the Milf mobile headed from the burbs to Atlanta to finish up the shopping that I started on Friday. Went to the mall and scored some awesome deals on clothing for the children. Got the Mr. a nice pair of sunglasses that he asked for and got toys for the children. The back of my car was full and I felt satisfied with my purchases especially for the minimal amount of money that I spent. Then the foolishness set in this morning and I started to think that I needed to head out and get more “stuff”.

Foolishness, I like everyone else gets caught up in the ideal that the meaning of Christmas is to have the bottom of the tree overflowing with presents that they won’t play with. I have decided to pick up a few more items to include books, a crayola crayon maker, the Michael Jackson game for the Wii and a beginners sewing machine for my stepdaughter and that is IT for the children. These typed words as my witness. I don’t want to them to get the idea that Christmas is all about the gifts..so cliche but true, these children are horribly spoiled, toys here and there all during the year. I am currently searching to see if there is a place where all of us can go to volunteer so they can really understand how blessed they are, because based on the words that come out of my son’s mouth I think he believes he’s entitled.

The truth of the matter is most of us are in much better positions to provide for our children than our parents were in providing for us. The hard part is drawing the line between satisfying our need to feel validated in going a step above our parents and just being flat out excessive.

I couldn’t help myself..we got the moves right?!!

Did you lose your mind buying gifts this season or did you keep it conservative?! Be honest!

Whirlwind Weekend

How was your weekend? Mine was extra busy for sure, but Lil Man had a ball. He was able to spend some time with his buddies and his cousins, however I am sure if you ask him what the highlight of the weekend was he will tell you we finally got our Christmas tree.

Saturday morning a couple of my mommy besties and I took the children to a candy cane hunt and Christmas festival. It was fuhreeeeezing out there, but its all about the babies and they were having fun. We made gingerbread houses, decorated cookies and danced..who can resist the Cha Cha slide. I was babysitting my niece and nephew so when all was said and done between the four of us there were eight children (two are hiding in the pic). Might I mention keeping up with that many children in an outdoor space is quite the job.

I’ve discovered Flickr!!

After our hands and toes were nice and frozen we parted ways and I headed back home to pack up my babies. The inlaws took them for the night and the Mr. and I had the opportunity to go out and have a nice dinner together. We grabbed the kids the next morning and headed to get the Christmas Tree!

Inside of the car..I love to see him happy! Like his Flickr hat?!!

No sooner than we get the tree in the house, I am dashing back out the door with Lil Mama in tow to go and support one of my friends at her trunk show..I bought myself a few things, and chatted it up with the homies and headed home to finish up some homework..1 week left until school can kick rocks permanently.

Finally its time to decorate, on Monday afternoon….Thank you all for your suggestions regarding how to handle him decorating. I have decided to get them their own little tree as well as let them add a few ornaments of their choice to the family tree. My stepdaughter will be here in a few weeks and so that she feels included we will undertake that project when she gets here.

I suppose we’ll attack the outdoor lights tomorrow.

Are your decorations up yet? If not, what’s the hold up? I can ask that now that mine are finally done!

Whose Tree is It Anyway?

After my last post regarding starting holiday traditions with my son, I took him to Walmart with the intention for him to pick out a few ornaments that he liked so we could put them on the tree. The tree we don’t have yet, no I’m not being sarcastic just mad that I can’t lift the tree out of the car, hold it with one hand while screwing it into the stand all by myself with the other, I digress. My tree for the past few years has been decorated with red and silver ornaments, pretty red hand tied bows and white twinkling lights. I have refused the adding of any “icicles” you know the silver stringy things that are a pain to clean up or any ornament that doesn’t go with the color scheme.

When I made the offer to him to pick out a few ornaments, I never thought for a minute he would be smitten with Handy Manny, Playhouse Disney, Diego, and other character based ornaments. I managed to hold him off while I thought of my strategy to tell him that those things don’t match the decor of the tree and therefore would not be purchased. Yes, I sound uber ridiculous..Christmas IS for the babies right?

But what about my treeeeee, the one I don’t have?! I should just give it up right, and become obsessed with the mantle and the wreath and let the kids have at the tree. You know colorful blinking lights, singing ornaments, bubble lights (I happened to love those as a child, unfortunately they don’t come in red and silver..I checked), icicles galore, different colored candy canes, no rhyme or reason or do I purchase them their own little tree for their decorating pleasure. I know the answer, but I would really like to hear your thoughts.

Have you dealt with this? What would you do?!
