Covert Mission Friday Randomness

What’s up?

Its Friiiiiiiiday, and I’m ready to swang, pick up my girls and hit the party scene…literally. I have one busy weekend ahead of me.

During my summer hiatus I started freelancing for a new e-magazine here in Atlanta called the  Atlanta Tastemaker<—-subscribe here. I’ve met some awesome moms working with this project, great friendships and supportive women.  Well tonight is the launch party and its being held at an oh so swanky rooftop venue downtown. Can’t.Wait.

I won’t be hanging out that late because I have a 6:20a flight Sat. morning. Yep, you read right…A.Flight. I’m getting on an airplane. I know you want to know where I’m going but I can’t tell. I did mention it on Twitter awhile back if anybody remembers take it to the grave and don’t expose me in the comment section. Where I’m going my face will be a surprise and while I know said person doesn’t “do” the Twitter, they do have access to the web and I’m just not sure if they are reading..so that leaves you in suspense. #youcare

Well this week I’ve tried to create a schedule and for the most part I stuck to it *slow claps*. I’m proud of myself I pushed through and completed my task list…for the most part..for most of the most part..

Lil Mama is trying to talk. I make it a point to enunciate with her while she grips the basics. She has started copying me sound for sound. Ex: I say hoT . She says oT.  I say cuP she says cuuuuuP whilst grabbing at my shirt trying to nurse. Weaning? oh yeah, that is a work in progress. Maybe I’ll vlog her new found language skills next week. That’s if I come up on some change for a new webcam…seeing we need a new roof and all..that’s a story for next week.

Lil Mama has also found her voice and makes it a point to belt out random ear piercing shrieks at her leisure.

Lil Man is adjusting to school well. Piano lessons are going well and he is playing football again. Would any one of you know why football for a bunch of 5 y.o.’s would cost $600? Anybody?

I’ve picked my camera back up! I had a shoot last weekend with baby girl twins. Marinate on the sound of that. Uber cuteness. Next week, I’ll post a few from the shoot.

I’ve been running and following my half marathon training program to a TEE. Unfortunately I had to join the gym. With Lil Man’s schedule and my husband coaching his own pee wee team on the off days, I just didn’t have the time to get in my runs like I needed to. So now, after I drop off at school I hit the gym, Lil Mama goes in the kid center. Crisis diverted.

Welp, that was long and random. Come back on Monday for the reveal of my top secret covert mission. There will be tons of pics..tons.

What’s on your agenda for the weekend? Summer is winding down, you better get it in and get it in soon. ’til Monday!

The Help…A Glossy Review

Thanks everyone for my birthday wishes. I felt like I was clinking martini glasses, handing out air smooches and hugs with all of you!

When I started the blog I always wondered how people got to see movie screenings. Although I’m not in the big leagues, I have managed to get on a few PR lists and get to see movies now and again. Working my way on up!

I was thrilled to get an email inviting me and a guest to a screening of The Help. I had heard the buzz surrounding the film, some good, some bad. I had purchased the book but in the summer chaos that ensued I never got a chance to read it. Needless to say I went to the movie totally oblivious to the plot other than it was about some maids. Twitter had mixed commentary on speculation of what the movie would be about, so some of those thoughts were in the back of my head. However, I was prepared to make my own opinion.

The movie was captivating from the very beginning. The story telling was awesome. This is an incredible story. At times I wanted to shed a tear thinking about all that women of color have endured in the past. I had given little thought to what it might have meant to be a maid, other than cleaning and rearing children but to hear the stories opened my eyes to another perspective of what life must’ve been like back then. The actresses did a phenomenal job and really took you back to what Jackson, MS was probably like during this time.

I always like when movies based on historical facts are tastefully done.  I can only hope these type of movies evoke compassion and empathy in a way that will change minds and lives. This was an awesome film. I urge you to see this. Please go with an open mind.

GLOSSY METER: Dull/Lack Luster/Shiny/High Gloss

*I was given a free ticket to screen the movie. All opinions are my own*

Me

ONE

I’m one today! On this day one year ago, after being influenced by Erika, I decided to give blogging a whirl. After many failed attempts at creating a header, she created my current one. Loooove her! When I started blogging I hadn’t a clue what I was getting myself into, but I knew sitting at home day in and day out with a 3 month old was getting quite tedious and boring. I started this blog with the intent to have something to look forward to each day, I had no idea I would come across some of the most amazing and supportive people. Some of you have been here since the very beginning and I’m thankful for ALL of you. Blogging has truly changed my life, and I believe it can change yours too. If you are looking to start your own blog, you might want to have a look at some of the best web hosting options, as you’ll need this for the creation of your website. But once you get going, hopefully you’ll have as many amazing readers as I do! You really don’t have to come by here, read and leave your thoughts. THANK YOU so much!

So after a year of blogging I have learned there are rules to this game. Here are a few of the biggies I’ve learned:

  • There are blog “clicks”…if they won’t let you in, don’t sweat it. Being thirsty for acceptance in the blog world is unnecessary. There is a fit for everyone. Find YOUR community
  • Some “mommy” bloggers are the real bullies
  • Fretting about your blog “niche” is needless. Your blog like everything will constantly evolve..just roll with it. Some will like, some won’t. It’s your space, others are always welcome to the red x in the upper right hand corner <---THIS!
  • To get the perks, this is a numbers game. Promoting is necessary to get there quickly. I choose the slow walk.
  • Just because people don’t comment doesn’t mean they aren’t reading
  • ALWAYS show love to bloggers who show love to you. We all were once small fish in the big pond..not that I’m a big fish, I might be a small goldfish now.
  • Don’t lose sleep over lost followers. I unfollow blogs all the time. I wouldn’t be surprised if people did it to me. Its OKAY! We change in our interests. It’s not personal.
  • The Blogger/Twitter beef…HILARIOUS. If you haven’t come across any, go look for some. Will make your day. People can be so petty and insecure.
  • Reciprocity is not always necessary. Laila over at Only Laila said something when I first started blogging that has proven to be true. If I comment on your blog don’t feel compelled to comment on mine. I genuinely had something to say, don’t feel you need to come and return the favor..unless you genuinely want to 🙂
  • Blogging is addictive, fun and world changing. It allows you to step out of your own world and into the world of others. I won’t tell you how my insight on things has drastically changed since blogging. Step out, follow blogs you wouldn’t normally. You might just find an interest that you never knew you had.

Welp, that’s my short and dirty of my first year of blogging. I don’t see an end in the near future. Ever wanted to know why I chose Lipgloss and Binky as the name of the blog? Go —-> here <---- to read my first blog post!

THANK YOU ALL FOR READING!!

Life Me Mompreneur

Motivationally Challenged

If knowing is half the battle then I’m halfway to victory. After extensive soul searching, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m lazy. Lazy might be a little harsh, let’s say time management deficient.

My moniker of choice is “I don’t have enough time.” If I might keep it “real”, truth is I for the most part have the time to do what I want and need to do, its just that I choose not to use my time wisely. If its something I would rather not do, I will put it off and put it off until it becomes a source of stress for me. Sounds like procrastination on top of the time management deficiency. I got problems.

Sooooo what do I do about this teeeeeeny imperfection of mine? *shrugs* Somedays I’m on it, other days not so much. I have big dreams and the truth of the matter is if I can’t wrangle my laziness time management deficiency/procrastination issues and will myself to do things when I don’t feel like it, how will I obtain those goals. I guess my desire isn’t as strong as my will and I have a major problem with that. Getting it together is at the top of my list….the one that I have a hard time following. I’mma get it together. Starting this week. For real. Like as in today. Making a schedule and sticking to it. The revolution will be “blogarized” on Friday. Wish me well. I WILL do this. *writes down weekly agenda*

How do you push yourself to get things done when you just d*%n don’t feel like it?
