Not Feeling Christmas and Such + Weekend Vlog

I’m not feeling Christmas this year, at all. Clutch your pearls at the fact that we just got a Christmas tree yesterday, as in December 18, one week before Christmas. Clearly we were way tardy to the party because we had to peruse about 4 lots of Charlie Brown “womp womp” trees before we found one. Went to decorate it and as  we started searching for the lights I conveniently remembered I tossed them all out last year because I was going to buy all new ones during the after Christmas sale.

That didn’t happen.

So now we have a tree with no lights and due to a child not cleaning her room, and folks consistently failing to discard of their hot chocolate debris I’ve yelled Christmas is cancelled more times than I care to mention.

Before you call me a Grinch, I vow to gather myself and salvage the remainder of the Christmas season with some semblance of joyfulness complete with a show of twinkling lights and baked cookies and Christmas movies.

Well the elf has been moving around a bit. That has to count for something.

This weekend was a busy one as most of them are. I suppose I move around so much that I don’t realize it until people bring it to my attention. Sometimes I wonder if my life is really that full of amazing people and places to go or am I over committing myself. Trust me, figuring that puzzle out is at the very top of my 2018 list.

Went to Ikea twice this weekend because I can’t quite come to terms with the shower curtain and rug for the bathroom makeover. I’ve resolved to understanding that what I am looking for doesn’t lie in the twist and turns of the Ikea maze. I give up.

My Friday night dinner consisted of Varsity onion rings and a fried peach pie. It was a long week.

Atlanta Varsity

Saturday night we had a late dinner with friends.

Sunday I had brunch with one of my favorite people for her birthday….and stood in line at Ikea again. If you’ve never been to Ikea on a Sunday, you’ve missed nothing except heartache and frustration.

Thank you so much to those of you that took out the time to fill out my blog survey. I know it doesn’t work on mobile, but if you are on a desktop and haven’t filled it out yet if you wouldn’t mind giving me your thoughts and feedback on how I’m doing over here I’d appreciate it.

Due to the overwhelming response of respondents wanting to see my family’s weekend vlogs make a come back I did film this weekend and hopefully I’ll stay on track and get back to doing them regularly.

Hope you are having a great week. How was your weekend?

Random Thoughts

It’s Saturday evening and after being out all day and not planning ahead for this whole blogging every day in November thing I have going on, today’s blog post is just a few of the random thoughts that have been running through my head the past few days.

| This dance mom life is the most.  I’m just getting started and I’m already tired. Every weekend from now until the middle of December there is a dance performance and/or practice sucking the life out of my Saturdays and Sundays. We breathe for two weeks and right when the new year starts we jump into competition season. Anything for the kids they said.

| I’m contemplating some really tough decisions on whether to cut out a few things I love in the new year. I’m in that time of year when I overthink everything and everyone’s intentions. One discerning factor that remains constant is I need  GOOD VIBES around me. If they aren’t there some things will need to go for sure, but that still doesn’t make the decisions any easier to solidify.

| While I’m confident in myself and my abilities I often sit on my gifts, why I don’t know. These past few weeks I’ve been so thankful for girlfriends that have shown me a whole lot of hard love mixed with encouraging words. While I’m not quite ready to get up off my *ss on a few things I so love them for calling me out. Timing is everything. If you don’t have girlfriends that will gather you all the way together, email me, I’ll be that friend for you. We all need at least one.

I got this text from a friend early one morning and it has resonated with me for some reason, I guess because it came out of nowhere. This week send a friend a random email celebrating them. I’m adding this to my list of things to do, these little words of encouragement mean a lot.

| We’re doing a Friendsgiving this year. I need to get the menu together. From the very preliminary looks of it, we’ll have the traditional mixed in with crab legs, barbecue, and adult beverages. I can’t wait.

| I went over to my neighbor besties house and went in her closet and realized that I have no clothes. I literally did a purge and didn’t replace anything. I really need to go shopping.

| I ran up on one of those little free libraries today. I took a book, I’m going back during the week to put a few in. Those things are the best. As soon as I’m done with this post I’m going to start reading.

| I have a tattoo on my wrist. Trying to talk myself out of getting one on my other wrist. It’s not working.

| After asking my daughter to clean her room for the past week and her not doing it, today I had enough and packed up all her toys and will be taking them to the Goodwill in the morning. She was allowed to keep her American Girl doll and accessories, one other doll and that’s it. The thing is she didn’t seem phased at all. This just goes to show kids today have way too much.

| I really want to make time to craft and learn to sew but it always seems like I’m just trying to keep up with life and there isn’t room for these things. Truth is there is time for the things I want, and love to do. I just need to focus and quiet the noise. Stay tuned.

| I’ve been looking all over Craigslist, and thrift stores all across town for an executive desk to refinish like this one from Life on Virginia Street. How about my neighbor posted one in perfect condition for FREE in our neighborhood Facebook group and when I saw the listing someone had claimed it FIVE minutes before I saw the listing. I. Am. Still. Sick. About. It.

| While I love blogging, my love for video editing has me wanting to delve more into Youtube….like I have time to add ONE more thing to my plate. I went back and was looking at some of our old weekend vlogs and felt so thankful that I took the time to do them because they captured memories of my babies that I had forgotten. That being said I’m weekend vlogging again. Not sure if I will always announce it over here so be sure to follow on Youtube! Here’s the vlog from last weekend

Hope your weekend is going well

Weekend Vlog | My Bestie Got Married

Ever stumbled onto a new hobby? I have and of all things it is editing video. I love it so much I am contemplating taking a class and really getting into it.

In the meantime those of you that have enjoyed our weekend family vlogs in the past will be seeing more of them simply because editing video is my new creative outlet.

This weekend my best friend got married. It’s been a whirlwind few weeks celebrating her including our epic trip to Cherokee, NC.

The wedding was absolutely beautiful, for obvs reason I don’t have photos of the actual ceremony, but here are a few that we snapped post wedding.

Our entire weekend has been condensed to 10 minutes in this week’s vlog to include pre and post wedding shenanigans! Let me know what you think of my new take on vlogging.

Life Happenings

Life goes on as it should, and while it will undoubtedly take a few days to digest the happenings over this election season I’m hoping in a few days I will be in a better mood. For now, writing in this space stretched my imagination far more than it should’ve and many times I contemplated shutting my computer and giving up on this whole blog everyday thing but then I determined I’m not a quitter so here I am!

I don’t have anything exceptionally profound or useful today, I’m sharing the easiest of easy things to write. The recent happenings in my life!

I haven’t done a random life post in a while, so here we go.

My Dad is moving here. Y’all, I’m 37.5 years old and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. My father currently lives in Las Vegas, he was great about coming to see us about twice a year but this new arrangement is going to be the bomb obvs. Him and my stepmother were here a few weeks ago for two weeks. In that time they managed to find a home, sign all of the paperwork and pick out the finishings that will go in their new home that is being built. Closing scheduled for January.

Again, Y’all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m officially a dance mom. As if dancing twice a week wasn’t enough Addi made it to the competition dance team and she is also cast in her ballet school’s Nutcracker performance. We are currently dancing 4 days a week and that is on top of my son’s activities. I’m tired.

I got a cast iron dutch oven. If anyone is a fan of The Pioneer Woman you know that a dutch oven is a key ingredient to good cooking. I specifically remember last Christmas holding up the line at JcPenney deciding whether to pay $60 for a dutch oven that was on sale. I decided against it and for nearly a year I’ve been peeking at them not ready to pull the trigger until I went to Aldi the other day. I saw one for $30.

$30.

I left with it and when I get the time I’m going to peruse Ree and Ina’s sites for all of the dutch oven recipes. Stay tuned, I’ll be sure to share.

The kids and I had a mini staycation and it was amazing. A few weeks ago my husband traveled out of town. That particular Saturday the kids had a total of 3 birthday parties and dance lessons. The last party was quite a distance from our home and it was late in the evening. We decided to spend the night at my BFF’s house in the city. We walked to dinner and slept in and walked to brunch and sat on the rooftop. That one night away from home trekking in the city refreshed me. Just goes to show sometimes all we need is a little change of scenery to hit the reset button.

I’m in a weird space. This election has drained me. I’m not really one to discuss political issues but like most people I’m just glad it’s over. I welcome everyone to vote for who they feel is the best but the hatred that has come of this is one I hope to never see again in my lifetime but I know better. I’m glad we know the outcome, and can govern ourselves accordingly. I’m hoping the joy of the holiday season can mask this hate for a least a little while. I think we all need a little joy, family and fun this season.
